I think Alabama has always had big strong physical offensive and defensive lines and Saban knew how to take advantage of that better than alot of coaches b/c that's what his strength as a coach and his philosphy revolves around. Similar talent minus the sanction years has pretty much always been at Bama but maybe underacheived a bit under Shula.

Anyway, one thing I think the NFL did to Saban was lend him more recruiting credibility. Kids want to play for a coach that has been in the NFL b/c they think he has the better chance to get them there. Couple that with the fact that Saban won a national championship at LSU while putting alot of guys in the draft and he naturally appeals to a higher percentage of recruits than most coaches do.

Did he gain more x&o experience? Probabaly some although likely not enough to be the difference in a game. He was always good at that

It's just a saying that anyone who is familiar with The Bear Age knows.

I don't think Saban is as quotable as The Bear. He is more reserved in what he says.

ULM loss = 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, seems like a good one.

I think there's no argument that what's done in the last 2 years is nothing sort of impressive, and on that basis he seems to be better. I'll admit I'm green with envy for Bama this morning. Of course, you have to wait till the fat lady sings on this season to really make that call. What will the Bama reaction be if they drop another SEC title & possibly bowl game?

I will say that the last 2 years in the SEC haven't been the stiffest competition. LSU's debacle last year, combined with the Auburn, Moo State & Tennessee implosions are helpful. Tuberville had his number when he was LSU.

The one thing I'm interested to see, of course, is his staying ability. I don't mean this as Germans, but how long can you put up with the tantrums and relentless bearing down. Oh, and to say he seems "humbler" and less prone to tantrums is laughable - did you watch the LSU game?

Saban is at Alabama for the long term guys and you need to get used to it and try to keep up. He is recruiting better, and winning more at Alabama than any place he has been in his coaching career.

I tend to agree with this. The programs that could take him from Bama are not likely to go after him, not because of bama but because of Saban himself.

I think any program would want him at this point but he has already built a program at a place where he can get anything he wants support wise.

I'm not saying otherwise. But, his history & the contract details, combined with intriguing comments he made (and makes) about leaving LSU keep things interesting enough to provide endless hours of argument on here!

He's done this at every school he's been at. Don't think you're so special. Certainly the level of support he has at Bama is comparable to what he had at LSU.

Not every school is the top program in the SEC and has won more national championships than any other school
in the country. He is at another level of program now and that is why he is doing things he has never done before in his coaching career. This next recruiting class will be his third that is completely his making. We have not even seen what he will be able to do in time.

Two years removed from losing to ULM. One season removed from having your arses handed to you by Utah. One blocked field goal from losing to TN this year. Suddenly you're "another level or program". Y'all are good, but please. Don't take yourself so seriously.

And if that pisses you off, just ask Saban. Didn't he himself say earlier this year that Bama wasn't "back" yet?

You can keep burying your hand in the sand if it makes you feel better but that is the reality of the situation. Saban saying saying that bama is not "back yet" is actually pretty scary considering how good the team is. They won't truely be back until they win it all regardless.

Another level of program yes. No team in the SEC can even come close to matching Alabama's football tradition (few programs in the country can for that matter).

Does that "tradition" not include basically the last 10-12 years where your vaunted program had become a joke & the pariah of NCAA violations?

We're talking about 2009-2010 buddy, not the last 30 years. A lot has changed in football, if you haven't noticed.

lsu fan. Tradition does not equal 10 years in anything and football is no different. Alabama has won more games, bowl games and national championships than any other team conference and more national championships than other team in the country for that matter, that's tradition.
