If he wants to be a HC, he should probably take the job if offered. If he is happy being a coordinator (like some coaches are) he is set in Alabama.

I think he probably should have taken an offer a few years ago. That way he would have had several seasons of HC experience at least before the Alabama job came open.

Right now, he can't really catch a break. IF the defense is bad, Smart sucks. If the defense is good, that Saban sure is a genius.

I think he would do well at SC, tbh. And then his resume would look better for the Alabama job.

Little Nicky does everything he can to prevent his assistants from getting HC jobs. So no he won't be the USC coach

We tried to lure Kirby away twice in the past few years to be our DC...at his Alma Mater...and he declined.

The guy wants a HC job...I could see him going to USCe...and doing well.

Is he a good recruiter? South Carolina isn't an easy recruit compared to a lot of the other SEC schools. I always figured one of his downsides may be that Saban is the lead recruiter on a lot of the bigger fish. Am I wrong?

Kirby Smart is gonna have to start thinking about his next move eventually. Saban won't be at Bama forever.

Most Bammers think Kirby is the undeclared 'coach in waiting.' Also, this scares most Bammers.

Talk about high risk. Kirby Smart with no HC experience following Saban at Alabama.

He probably wouldn't pull away any recruits Sabear wants...unless the kid is in SC.

Smart would take the job if offered. He's made that known to folks throughout South Carolina.

Personally I'd be more afraid if they took Stoops from Kentucky, but either would be a good hire.

It would be good to see how Kirby handles a JV squad before handing him the varsity job at BAMA.

That would be a step down for Kirby. The only reason USC has been any good at all is because of spurrier. They will never have the spotlight like this again.

I do not think that it will be a money thing for Kirby, in fact you probably land him for less. For Kirby it is whether or not he even wants to be a HC.

College Football daily reporting that early favorites for USCocks will be Tom Herman from Houston and USCTrojans will be Bronco Mendenhall from BYU or Jim Harbaugh from Michigan.

Hell yes. This would hurt Bama more than him as the DC,imo.

Kirby has long thought the Bama job is his when Saban retires. That was kind of understood when Mal was around. Not certain if it still is or not. If he isn't sure Battle will give him the job, or he's not sure when Saban is going to retire, then I could definitely see him wanting the USCe job.

It's a good job and he could do well there. He recruits Georgia like a mad man and could help South Carolina improve their talent quickly.

Also, him getting HC experience is only a positive. Saban will retire at some point in the next 5 years or so and top choices to replace him are Dabo and Kirby. One has HC experience and one doesn't (right not)

Yes, because a coach who has team playing arguably the best football in the entire nation is going to leave his ALMA MATER, which he has single-handedly put back on the map? I know he has a lot of ties to the West Coast, but I'm not buying it. I don't think he'll voluntarily leave Ann Arbor unless it's for another NFL gig.

Think about it, you lose your best defensive x&o's guy this year after losing who many thought was at best the guy being groomed for Kirby's job, and at worst a top recruiter for you guys in Steel. And add the addition of Lane and I think it could be a recipe for disaster. It all depends on the replacements but that is a tough couple of years.

Sounds familiar. He wanted the UGA DC job and the Auburn HC job. Just saying that this is what every school spreads about any potential candidate mentioned.
