Kinda sounds like Huntsville, in Alabama. MOST of Alabama is a craphole.... but one in ten people in Huntsville is an Engineer. City was voted best place to live in America more than once (low crime rate, low cost of living.... my property taxes on a 2,000 square ft house on a qtr acre in a nice subdivision is $500 a year). My friend from NJ has a cow every time I remind him of that. He pays $5,000 a year for a lesser home. Our Cummings Research Park is the second largest reseach park in the country. This place is the best kept secret in the Southeast.

No, that definately is NOT true. NWA wouldn't even reach a top 50 in average income nationally. Not even close. Yes , there are a lot of people in the Fayettevile/Springdale/Bentonville/Rogers area that make A LOT of money, but there are many many MANY more that are at or below the poverty line.I'd say it's probably a 6:1 ratio, at least. My wife works for a non profit that administers government, and some private, aid to lower income residents and there are some POOR people in NWA.

Here is the deal. Fayetteville is a college town. Has a hippy vibe to it. Springdale is Mexicans, Mexicans, and more Mexicans. Rogers bunch of mexicans too just not as many as Springdale. The place to live for a 22 yr old single guy is Fayetteville. Bentonville...don't like it. Too much business feel. Everything there during the week seems to all travel to the home office.

How is NWA? I got an offer from Tyson Foods but I can't decide whether or not to take it. They pay very well too, far better than I expected. Would I hate myself as a 22 year old single male living in Springdale, AR?

I work here at Tyson Corporate right now. Tyson is awesome. Great family atmosphere. Great place to start a career FWIW

I really want to, but my other offer is in downtown Dallas, which would be really fun to live/work in. Are there lofts/condos in downtown Fayetteville where young professionals live?

You can probably get a small house or 2 bedroom apartment in NWA for what a 1 bedroom apartment in Dallas will give you.

awesome, one question though: The knock I've heard on Tyson is that it is difficult to move up in the company? I'm doing accounting, for whatever it is worth.

Bentonville is too damned busy. How many of us can tell stories of sitting on I540 for 3 hours because the onramps and off ramps were so backed up that no one could move? I also hate the way they have four freaking roads named Walton Boulevard and if you're looking for an address on one, they simply tell you they are one Walton Boulevard not mentioning that there is are FOUR of them with each having a different direction after Boulevard in the name and that the numbers start over as the one road that has four fricking names changes directions.

Springdale is about half Mexican. That is true.

15 years ago it was 100% redneck.

Hey its not a problem if you don't mind sending your kids to schools where Spanish is the primary language spoken, because thats the case in some of Springdale's older neighborhoods.

Most of the Mexicans living in NWA are good people. They're just trying to earn a living. I'd sure take them over some of the white trash that lives around here.

You would like Fayetteville much more than Springdale I think. Dallas is really big. I hate big cities. Springdale is the worst of the "big 4" (Rogers, Bentonville, Springdale, Fayetteville) Rogers is kinda like the family town. Bentonville is the business town. Springdale is just one dirty arse speed bump on your way to Fayetteville. Driving down Sunset everyday would drive me crazy. Fayetteville, college town and a nice place to live.

Based on the performance of the football and basketball teams over the last 10 years they may want to start looking at better ways to spend the donated money.

Baseball and Track/Field seem to be doing pretty well. The other sports need to catch up.

Explain where they get the $$$ for their facilities.

The Waltons and Tysons (Bud Walton Arena / Randal Tyson Track Center) have given millions to the U of A over the years but a lot of Arkansas' money comes from people who worked/work for Wal-Mart, Tyson, JB Hunt and others. As an example the Walker Family has donated millions to the U of A as evident by the 76,000 sq. ft. indoor facility the Willard & Pat Walker Pavilion and Indoor Football Practice Field and the 38,000 sq. ft. Walker Family Training Center that bares their name.

If I'm not mistaken I believe Willard Walker may have been one of the original Wal-Mart Managers but I may be confusing him with the Whittaker Family.

Also, I know a lot of the Big Companies like PepsiCo, Dr. Pepper Group, P & G, Coalgate, and many, many more buy tickets and contribute money and goods to Razorback Functions like Razorfest in conjunction with the Spring Game. A few years ago I secured some Indoor Club Tickets compliments of GE.

There is a lot more money in NW Arkansas than one would imagine.
