Duh, the way titles were decided pre 1992, records.
3, 7-1 teams win the SEC title and thus if you had 4 playoff teams the SEC would get 2 and maybe even 3 in the playoff.
It makes no sense to eliminate teams from a playoff system when the other conferences are far worse.
Mizzo & AU fans would if this was 2014 one of your teams would be eliminated while Bama would get in, UNLESS the BS committee screwed us.
With a 3 way tie all 3 teams would have a better shot.
The Big 12 can finnish in a 3 way tie as of today.

Not what I meant. Game is played in his recruiting backyard and at least Bama and UF have benefitted from that.

Because of his game the SEC championship has become one of the best events in sports.
Dumb idea.
Dumb idea.

1992 called, they want their talking points back
In 1992 the issue wasnt whether the loser would be put at a disadvantage to an undeserving member of the same conference.
With the current system even if Mizzou wins Auburn would lose a playoff spot due to playing in that game as they will probably drop 2-3 spots , whereas a divisional member gets to sit at home and wait for the fall out.

do you have something else, because that doesnt mandate. Again I may be wrong here.

I would decide. The whole world would be a better place if everybody would begin to think just like me.

There are 3 11-1 teams. Even with head-to-head (of which Missouri played neither team), you end up with 3 co-champs, and... what? A coin toss between Missouri and Auburn on who gets to the Sugar Bowl? Just look at 1989. We had three co-champs that year, all 6-1, all having beaten each other (Alabama beat Tennessee, who beat Auburn, who beat Alabama). You want to go back to that again?

events maybe but game frick no! almost always a blowout, only twice in the last 10 years have the games been even close, well within 10 points

Play the SEC Champ game @ UT on their field. Weed out the players that aren't playoff material.

Conference titles are more legitimate championships than any MNC(and yes, this has always been my train of thought).

I said to do away with the divisions also.

Bama don't need no stinking conference title. Not enough flag poles for all of the national championship title flags. Don't even want to think about trying to memorialize all the SEC championships.

I stand corrected. The SEC championship game is not mandated. NCAA bylaw 31.3.4.1 (d) states:
(d) In championship subdivision football, football-playing conferences that subdivide into five or more teams are required to conduct a single round-robin competition within each division and develop a formula for determination of the conference champion, which must be approved by the Football Championship Committee prior to the start of the season. A postseason championship game is not required.
But I can't imagine why you'd turn away from a championship game. All that $$, and it's the most fair way you can go.
The only arguments are that one division is stronger or weaker than the other (it's cyclical), or that the championship game loser is at a disadvantage. Cry me a river. But life's not fair, deal with it. If you want a shot to be the best you deal with the cards (or system) you're dealt.

The SECCG has been pretty memorable too. Last year's epic tilt of Bama vs UGA. The 1992 Antonio Langham int return for TD. The 1994 1 point game between Alabama and Florida. Just to name a few.

The SECCG is a great event and no one is arguing that point, but say we go to an 8 team playoff, AU or Mizzou would probably be left out with a loss, being in the playoff will be a much larger event.
The SECCG starting next year only serves our competention.
