Again, it's a military college thing, not a Texas thing.

I guess they're all just brainwashed into begging their parents to buy a class ring when they first attend?
Most of the Aggies I know bought their rings themselves or even had them handed down.

If you were an Aggie, no you would not.

You can get a really good interest rate from the University for one.

That, too.
Also, :csb: , my Aggie ring was actually bought for me by a Texas Ex who is a dear friend of my dad's. Even he knows and respects how much the Aggie ring means to A&M former students, and I'll always be grateful to him for it.

No it's not, it's just an aggy thing. Look I think it is kind of weird but I respect it and see where the passion comes from. I have a few friends that go to A&M and you can tell its a big deal to them so I don't knock it.

You serious, Clark?
Really can't tell if half the responses in this thread are serious. Aggy may be cultish at times, but I see nothing wrong with getting a college class ring nor wearing one if you're a proud alumnus.

Tell that to Citadel, West Point, and USAFA alums, to name a few...
Knock it or don't, but the ring thing is hardly unique to A&M. As of today, though, A&M is just the largest school in the nation to have a ring tradition.

Is there really a winner or loser here? Some people wear pimp outfits to football games, I don't.

on't think you guys understand that we really do quite openly steer business and favors to other Aggies and that the ticket to that is often the ring.
Yea I know. On the first day of class the instructor was telling us how his ring is his prized piece and in business meetings you will see other Aggies and basically shite on all the other people in the room to help the other Aggie out.
Sorry but it came off very weird and cultish. Also strange to tell this to a bunch of 18 year olds to basically step all over your coworkers so you can help out the other Aggie in the room

I got popped on the head often enough by my father's Baylor ring that I think there's something to the Texas thing. He has always worn his and still does, along with many of my Baylor friends. It sounds like many USC guys also get/wear rings and Ole Miss gets all pissy about the subject. It isn't just Texas and it isn't strictly a military thing. From this thread it looks like it is mostly a "something for Ole Miss fans to gripe about" thing.

We are a cult.

Strange to have a culture of looking out for other alums? Yeah, ok, whatever you say

I noticed this while living in Waco, actually The baylor grads who do, do so with pride. Many of my baylor friends also don't care. Guess it just depends more than anything.

True. Guess I need to be careful in specifying that the ring tradition just has strong roots in military heritage. Hardly the sole reason, though.

Stepping over coworkers to help out another guy?
Yea that's not a culture to be proud of.

Looking out for fellow Aggies doesn't mean screwing others over. No one said that--only you did.
Because you disklike A&M. I get that. But you don't have to make shite up, bro
Posted on 4/13/14 at 11:52 am to TbirdSpur2010
I didn't make shite up. I was in the classroom.
I go to the school

So, you're in the classroom, and Aggies told you to screw over coworkers who weren't Aggies?
Yeah, calling bullshite on your little anecdote, sorry

One million percent of Ags are military so this kid is lying since he is obviously not a seal.

Scratch and claw the other people in the room so you and the other Aggie can get to that next level.
That was pretty much the word for word. I have no reason to lie. I like the school and I love what I'm studying but there is no denying that the Aggies, as a whole, are a different breed.

You make absolutely no sense
Congrats on the multi-page troll thread, though. Good work, I can respect that

You do realize that having an alumi network that actively takes care of each other in the workplace is hardly an A&M phenomenon, correct? Michigan and Penn State, for two examples, have similar alumni network cultures. Maybe you didn't care for the way it was presented, but it's really no different from any other large alumni network, tbh. Aggies are just very vocal about ours, and with the rings, very visible, as well.

I'll never deny this. I embrace it, actually. It's a unique school, for better, for worse, for weird, for whatever lens you choose to view it through, you know?

What are you studying btw? I went to the business school, and my little brother is a senior at Mays as well
