It's a great follow-up story idea for any CW student journalist looking to make a name for him or herself. I would definitely read: "Sharing a Class with My Attaker: How the University of Alabama Allows a Man Who Left Me for Dead Sit Next to Me in Class"
There are so many interesting facts waiting to be uncovered. Were Jurgens or Paul consulted prior to allowing him to be readmitted? How do they feel about it? If not, do they have grounds to appeal?
What are your thoughts? Have you ever heard of a university re-admitting a student athlete who unprovoked, violently beat another student while on campus? Is bolstering your D-line depth worth the risk to the student body?
I dunno, you should write an article about it!

LoL you probably aren't smart enough to see how ridiculous this post was or you wouldn't have even written it. First off he wouldn't haven't been recruited by Nick Saban if he wasn't already a great recruit. But even then, when he was kicked off the team he was already a budding star. He didn't just go Juco and all of a sudden get good.
Furthermore we ware pretty loaded at DE. And finally... An Auburn fan?!?! really. Your football program has surpassed The U as thug-university.

Mark me in the camp that didn't agree with taking Pettway back.
That being said, I don't have access to the same information that the decision makers do in this situation. To some extent I have to trust that there is some evidence limiting the degree of his involvement. If that wasn't the case you would think that the victim would be raising a fair amount of hell about the situation if they were still attending the university.
I hope Pettway plays well and helps Alabama on the field, goes on to have a successful career on and off the field, and leads a good life.
That doesn't mean that I still don't feel 100% about this one.

Delusion? Pettway wasn't even the most talented of the morons that decided to assault fellow students. If there was some "coverup" to conveniently get one back to campus after a JuCo stint, where is Eddie Williams?

To anyone deflecting and pointing toward LSU's indiscretions, can you name an LSU student who was violently robbed on campus and then faced the possibility of enrolling in a class with the person charged with the crime?
Violently robbed. Not sucker-punched, not brawled with. Violently robbed.
If you feel the need to jump up and point a finger at LSU, you probably answered my question for me. You feel the university was justified. Sacrifices to student body safety must be made in order to keep up with football competitors.
Besides the student safety angle, look at the risk that the administrators are taking. If Pettway is charged with another violent crime against another student (or the same students for that matter), Alabama's reputation would certainly be damaged. Massive civil litigation would likely ensue. That will waste your tax dollars. And for what? The ability to keep fresh legs on the DL?
'Bama didn't need to take the risk. Pettway could've gotten a second chance anywhere. Foolish move by 'Bama. Anyone defending it should think again.
