Alabama and Auburn as permanent cross division rivals is you could (possibly, likely) play in the Iron Bowl and then a week later play each other in the SECCG

If it happened, I think it would be a rare occurrence.

It would be difficult to imagine a season when losing the Iron Bowl wouldn't cost the loser the division title.

That doesn't mean it couldn't happen; I just feel it's unlikely.

On the flip-side, some years that game is so good, the country deserves to see it twice.

Simplest and most common sense thing is draw a line right down the middle. Vandy and Bama are the schools in the middle and you keep bama in the west and Vandy in the east for overall conference balance.
Thanks for a great response. And I agree, that is actually what I think is the simplest solution that achieves geographic and strength balance. But I keep hearing about the importance of TIOS and IB and that prevents moving Auburn and Vanderbilt.

What I have been told is that Auburn would not want to play Alabama in the Iron Bowl and then (possibly, very likely) play them in the SECCG a week later. Your thoughts on that scenario?

You use this as a geographical argument, but then throw out the true geographical line of division based on preference...

To the best of my knowledge, there is not a tremendous rivalry between Tennessee and Vanderbilt and if there is they can be permanent cross division rivals.

You could also (as has been pointed out in this thread) make Alabama and Auburn permanent cross division rivals. I am aware this would be problematic for TSIO, but again, this is a preference... not purely rational based on your initial premise of geography.

You are not the only person on this board who makes a living applying logic...

My premise is geographic and based upon established rivalry games. Hence your solution is not even remotely feasible. Just more ranting about LSU and Alabama. This is not about those two teams. This is about a common sense solution to how we are aligned as a conference. I already recognize the weakest part of my proposal is balance of conference strength.

Apparently it is a non-negotiable facet of the current alignment. Auburn cannot go because it upsets both TSIO (cannot figure that one out) and IB (that one I can understand). And considering the differential in miles, it is inconsequential/miniscule. The biggest weakness is strength of conference. Apparently others do not consider Arkansas, Missouri, Texas A&M and the Landmass schools as legitimate threats.

So as per my previous response, do you have any issues with the current divisions besides the names not making sense geographically?

Would the exact same divisions being called "Blue" and "Yellow," for example, alleviate your concerns?

Fair enough. That actually makes sense. Could ask when and who but we will just keep kicking this one down the road instead.

I am personally of the opinion you could stir up some really good regional games that improves upon the brand. Some nasty rivalries. LSU vs A&M, Mizzou vs Arky. Some bad blood that helps in recruiting. This is primarily aimed at making Mizzou an established part of who we are from a regional sense (you have already made that statement as the SEC East champions two years in a row). I actually like your program a lot. Just want to get them lined up better.

Permanent cross division rivals? Is this all people on this board do, troll?

Look at that division and try to type with a straight face that UK doesn't go 0-8 every year.

My personal opinion is that we're actually better lined up as a school with the east anyways. We get our Arky "rivalry," and we get to get the bad blood in the Southeast, where we now concentrate a lot of our recruiting efforts.

I'm pretty happy with how it worked out, and not just because of the SECCG appearances.

Give the west Missouri, and give the east Auburn. Your welcome.

Cool bro, I appreciate an honest response. Just because it makes no sense to me does not mean it does not make sense at all. Looking forward to getting to play Mizzou one day soon (not sure how many years away that will be).

TSIO and IB seems to be the sticking point for that. But I am done.
