14 million DISH subscribers nationally. 5.5 million UVERSE TV subscribers nationally. We'll round up to 20 million combined by launch date(conservative estimate given Uverse's monumental growth pattern as it is instituted nationally)
If we assume a direct correlation of population in SEC states/nonSEC states to cable subscribers(30% of the entire population of the country reside in SEC states now), that means we've already locked up about 6 million subscribers in the SEC footprint, and 14 million outside. Assuming the numbers reported are accurate($1.30 per subscriber inside the footprint and $0.25 per subscriber outside the footprint), this bitch is already worth $135 million per year plus RIGHT NOW -- a full 5.5 months prior to launch -- on top of what we already make from the first 2 tiers -- and before you quadruple bowl revenue as we will next year.

Ive been a very satisfied Directv customer for 6 years. They have very good service, every time my contract runs up I tell them I am gonna switch to Dish and they give me a ton of upgrades every time plus free movie channels and Sunday Ticket. However if they dont pick up they SEC network I will be switching. I think they are seriously underestimating how many people they are gonna lose by not carrying the SEC network.
This.
They are currently, and have been for over a decade, the best provider of television. You can't beat their customer service and channel offerings for the miniscule price you pay. They bend over backwards to keep your business. The others are complete garbage.
That being said, I will leave them in a heartbeat if they don't pick up the SEC Network.

I wonder how much SEC teams will get. Half? That would be less than $5 million a team for Tier 3 which is meh money.

Half when it reaches the saturation point. We're guaranteed X amount by ESPN on the front end -- so they absorb all of the losses from potential distribution problems on the front end.
That number is with only 2 providers 5.5 months before launch. Not even close to what the actual number will be. And that's not considering the unknown distribution of advertisement revenue, which may also be 50/50...
Overall, there are about 95million pay tv subscribers nationally right now. That's 28.5 mil in SEC country and $66.5 mil elsewhere. At full saturation at current prices, the SECNetwork is worth about $644mil per year in subscription revenue alone.

Knew that would be the case. DirecTV will get it soon.

Thats the part they are overestimating. I believe they think when people call in to cancel to switch to Dish or Uverse for the SEC network; they think they can just resort back to their old business model of offering the upgrades, movie channels, Sunday Ticket and etc. They are going to be shocked at how many people will say "Nope still switching, gotta have that one channel bro!"

time warner here at fort bragg so far will not have it..at least the last time I checked they said they would not
If Comcast gets it, Time Warner will. Remember that TWC is now owned by Comcast.
What I REALLY hated at Bragg was the fact that the stupid ACC game of the week in football would keep you from being able to watch the CBS game of the week.

The auto - hop thing only works for prime time network shows as it is. And only Morons watch that shite.
I'm happy with dish since the switch from direct. Cheaper and I actually lose reception much less now during storms.

Me too. Still disappointed over their lack of Live Extra channels for EPL matches though. Will just have to keep streaming them...

Dish agreed to disable the "Auto Hop" ad-skipping feature for ABC shows until three days after the shows air. That period is important because advertisers pay for TV audiences measured up to three days after a show airs.
seems like a fair compromise

A question? Does this pose a dilemma for aggies ? Read somewhere that aggies will not pay for the LHN.

They don't have contracts with consumers so they can bump the price a couple bucks with no problems.
Expect Dish to increase their monthly rate because they now authenticate WatchESPN. In order for a carrier to to carry the SEC Network, they must have a distribution agreement in place that allows it's customers access to WatchESPN.

There are around 12.5 million satellite subscribers in the sec footprint. If you apply your assumption to directv subscribers that puts you close to 12 million alone.
Also, $1.30 does not include digital distribution rights (ie WatchESPN and ESPN3).

Comcast is garbage
I used to believe this. Then I moved and got Cox, and saw what garbage really is. Have Dish now and happy. Was fine with DirecTv too, but they don't have CST, and I wanted that channel specifically for LSU baseball.

That sucks that the LHN is leeching off the SECN to get carriage. But I guess it's a small price to pay to get the SECN. I'll puke a little every time I see the LHN as I'm paging through the channels.
I'm very curious how much ESPN is charging Dish for the SECN compared to the LHN. I hope we find out.
