100% subjective...like saying Ford is better than Chevy. I'm looking for objective insight.

how many NFL Sunday Ticket customers will cancel DirecTV if DirecTV doesn't pick up the new SEC Network?

Very few.

The NFL dominates the Northeast/North Midwest where the majority of this country's population lives.

NY, Cleveland, Buff, DC, Philly, Pitt, Boston, Cincy, Chicago, etc are NFL markets who do not follow thier own local college teams as much as the NFL teams there...much less SEC teams.

The only ppl in Chicago that give a frick about Alabama football are the alumni.

I think for the most part, the football fans in the majority of the "old" SEC footprint (i.e. the original 10) are more invested in college football than the NFL (with the exception of maybe FL and possibly LA). I live and work in Huntsville, AL which as a lot of northern transplants, yet the vast majority of football talk throughout the week (during football season) is about college football. The question then becomes does DTV care if subscribers in states like AL, MS, TN (outside of Nashville), and GA (outside of ATL) start switching services.

Not me. I got DirecTV for the Saints since I am out of their market in TX and like watching games on my couch. Bama will still get plenty of airtime on ESPN and CBS outside of the SECN for football. Not at a loss because I can't watch them play other sports.

I might would consider if I was a State or Vandy fan as I might get to see my school more often.

No fricks given about NFL sunday ticket. We had it one year and I frankly never used it. Tried to cancel it mid season when I realized it was a waste of money for us, and you cant until after the season. So I just had to keep paying. I wont subscribe to it again. I only give a shite about the Falcons, so no need beyond that and regular channel surfing on a sunday.

Now, if DirecTV doesnt pick up SECN, we are G O N E. Our commitment is over with DTV, and if no SEC Network, we will switch to a provider that does. Very simple.

SEC Network is currently exclusive to Dish and U-Verse.

No it's not. Any carrier can pick it up that enters into a distribution agreement with ESPN. Currently Dish and Uverse are the only two carriers that have agreements. NFL Sunday Ticket is different: directv has exclusivity which prevents any carrier from offering the service.

Unbelievable that some of y'all would think otherwise.
I like college more but I'd rather Sunday Ticket than the SEC Network.

Same here.

I'd rather have Sunday Ticket than the SEC Network. I'm still gonna get the main attraction SEC football games on CBS/ABC/ESPN/ESPN2, etc. wether my provider offers the "SEC Network" or not.

little known fact. You do not need to subscribe to DTV base package in order to get the Sunday Ticket as they sell it a la carte. So you can go with another cable provider and still order it.

I guess you'd rather watch the Kansas city chiefs beat the Tennessee titans than Alabama beat the Tennessee vols, basically the SEC Network won't be like the old sec tv where they show one crappy game per week and any game of importance will be on a main network, I'm sure most will but don't forget the SEC Network will show 3 games per Saturday and cbs only gets one pick, after that espn can put the rest of the games on any network they want (espn, espn2, espnu, SEC Network) so in other words after cbs picks the SEC's best game, espn can put the SEC's 2nd, 3rd,and 4th best games on SEC Network to draw subscribers.....also let's not forget that cbs's coverage doesn't even begin until week 3, so the first 2 weeks espn owns all the SEC games to put wherever they want, so if you don't have the SEC Network you'll spend a lot of time on the rant looking for updates or on sportscenter looking for highlights.

Yep. Living out of your viewing area is a real bitch in the NFL. It seems like I can't see maybe 2 LSU games a year...maybe.

Eh I'm out of market for the falcons and I have to watch 2 shitty local NFL games and then the national broadcast usually winds up sucking or being teams I don't care about. I really missed having it this past season.

Anyway espn won't go straight to putting games 2-4 on the sec network. They want subscribers but they aren't going to shun the flagship network of viewership if its a big game and they know 3/4 of the country don't have the network.
Other than USCe/A&M I doubt they put the biggest games on the network

Personally I agree, but nationally NFL is much bigger than college football. And NFL is WAY BIGGER than just the SEC.

And when I say bigger, I mean more popular.

To put it perspective, here are the 2013 TV ratings...

CBS NFL Games - 18.7 million viewers per game
FOX NFL Games - 21.2 million viewers per game
SEC TV Games - 3.8 million viewers per game (SEC is by far the highest rated conference. Big 10 is 2nd with 2.9 million)

You really think ESPN is gonna do that and take the risk of losing out on adverstising revenue by not having big games on their flagship stations?

espn has full distribution, SEC Network is looking for full distribution.....I'm sure ppl won't start canceling espn cause they didn't show games 2-4 from the SEC, and for the 3/4 of the country that can't watch it...espn is giving everyone plenty of time to get the network by calling their distributors to demand the network or switch to a distributor who do offer the network, basically by that time if you done have the network then you shouldn't care about missing the games.

What do you think will draw more ad revenue for ESPN? A top 15 game on ESPN that would draw millions of viewers or a top 15 game on the SECN that would have less than half the viewer numbers?

And it's not just super easy to get the network. I live in an apartment complex where you get one choice of cable provider and can't install a satellite disc. And as of now they don't carry the SEC Network and I don't live in GA at the moment so I doubt it's a huge priority. Plus other people are in similar situations or are locked into a contract. I'll go to the bar or stream any game I want to watch.

like the old saying goes, "it takes money to make money"so yeah they might have to take a loss in the beginning, but it'll all be worth it in the end.

Not really, You can watch any game you want online by streaming the game on ESPN 3. Or find a stream service for the event. Also if the game is every blacked out download hotspot sheild it will move your ip to Arizona and you can bypass the blackout.
