Yes he announced his retirement after the 82 game in bham

LSU fans are BAD liars.

NY Times article after he passed away is here:
NY Times

Relevant info:
quote:

Two weeks after he announced his retirement as coach, the Bryant era ended on Dec. 29 when Alabama defeated Illinois in the Liberty Bowl, 21-15.

Two weeks prior to Dec 29th:
December 15th

Date of LSU game in 1982:
November 6th

Number of games between LSU and retirement announcement:
2 (Southern Miss and Auburn)

bullshite meter:
9.5 out of 10 on the "Why can't LSU fans tell the truth" scale

Didn't LSU Football quit during Bryant and Spurrier's primes?

Hold on let me check- Hmmmm 0 SEC or National Titles while the OBC was at UF and what do you know LSU's last national title before 2003 was during Bryant's first year at Bama.

That's actually kind of funny the OBC and the Bear combined to keep LSU a bottom dweller for 40+ years.

No, it was Illinois. JoPa got canned after he lost to Illinois as well.

After losing to Jerry Stovall coached LSU in 1982, Bryant announced on Monday morning that he was retiring at the end of the season. His last game was a cold weather Liberty Bowl win over Illinois. A few months later, he died of a heart attack.

Nope.

Quit trying to revise history - you've already failed.

Bear Bryant's last game was victory against Illinois in the Liberty bowl. I don't recall if he announced his retirement after a loss to LSU or not. If he did would you be so stupid to think he retired because he was concerned about the LSU Tigers going forward?

He announced his retirement sometime after the LSU loss and before the bowl game. He retired for health reasons, but it was coincidental that it was the same season of the 1982 loss to LSU, as with Spurrier at SC and Urban Meyer leaving Florida after LSU losses. Add to that Coker at Miami firing serval assistants after his loss to LSU and then losing his job the following season.

He didn't. He made up his mind to quit football after his team lost to Southern Miss in Bryant-Denny Stadium. An SI reporter was in his office when Bryant said to him, "I can't coach 'em no more."

He made it official sometime after the loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Which if I'm correct, barners were stating the Bear retired because they saw Auburn on the uprise.

Everyone desperate to take credit for a 69 year old in poor health retiring.

Sad, really.
