Which if I'm correct, barners were stating the Bear retired because they saw Auburn on the uprise.
Of course if you attack then question with Occam's razor, then everyone gets to claim responsibility for Bryant's retirement (and subsequent death -- that's the other angle rantards have been hitting on tonight) instead of something like... I dunno... he was getting too old and infirm to coach effectively anymore.
Rantards gonna tard.

Where do LSU fans get this crap from? He DID NOT announce his retirement until the week before the Liberty Bowl. As someone who was actually alive when this happened, the first word of it came during the Big Monday night game between Seton Hall and Pitt. Around the 15th of December. During the game ESPN broke in Bob Ley said this just in Paul Bear Bryant has announced his retirement effective following the Liberty Bowl. Not the monday after LSU. Good lord.
If any team got Bear to retire it was Southern Miss who pounded us. He had beaten LSU the prior 12 years straight. Doubt that loss had him all in a tizzy.
LSU fans can convince themselves of anything in regards to their pedestrian history. This is just the best one I've heard.

since 1/9/12, some Who-fans have frantically searched for something, anything, to quell the ache in the arse syndrome caused by the beatdown in New Orleans, regardless of how utterly stupid some of it is.

If anybody gets credit for making the Bear quit it's either Dye or whoever invented bourbon.

After the loss to L.S.U., however, Bryant seemed especially disappointed. He praised Stovall and called him the better coach. He said he was going to tell the Alabama University president, Joab Thomas, to review the football program, starting at the top. Bryant, who is 69 years old and is college football's career leader in victories, implied he was ready to step down as coach if necessary.

I was a student at Bama at that time. The way I remember it was that Alabama had an age limit of 70 years old and the State wouldn't change it for Bear.

Bryant quit because he physically could't do the job anymore. He died one month after he retired.

I believe Jim Carmody was the last coach to beat him.

Actually what Bear said may not have been an actual retirement announcement, but he did say that it was time for him to leave football to the younger guys or something of that tune right after loss to LSU. (I was alive, and old enough to be married when this happened) BTW, never hated Bear Bryant myself, jealous as heck sure. He was certainly a great coach who knew how to take advantage of every loophole, especially in recruiting. Thus some rules were changed because of that.

Pathetic comment btw. I have no beef with Alabama, it is a game amongst big boys every year to be sure and so fun to watch. But the uppity-ness of some of your fans is just too damn much at times. You claim every title that any Podunk town newspaper gave you through the years, but you don't hang chandeliers from trees, I'll give you that.
Have a great day!!

No offense, but that can't be true.

Your memory is incorrect.

And frick you too, buddy. Those "loopholes" were available to every SEC team. Unfortunately, Cholly Mac couldn't get it done.
