As big as a Saints fan I am I'm giving them 4 games this year. If they start anything worse then 2-2 I'm out!

Are you going to quit on the Tigers after the Bulldogs tap that arse this weekend?

They sure did. For a decade there typically was at least one very good game on Thursday night.

The NFL decided it wanted Thursday and the college games on that night wilted away.

Since ESPN has the ability to schedule better games on Thursday night

They don't. They have a contract with certain conferences to hold Thursday games during certain weeks, but the conferences set those matchups. The allows the schools to properly set bye weeks or patsy opponents to compensate for the lost practice time. ESPN doesn't get to unilaterally say "this game is going to get played on Thursday night."

I think that Thursday night game MsState vs LSU was also the very first game of the year and the only one on in the country. I tried to drown my sorrows with bourbon but i still think I may have cried myself to sleep it was 45-0. i've tried to black it out of my mind 7 turnovers and 6 were converted into points

Thursday was home to Big East battles between Rutgers, West Virginia, & Louisville.

And it was awesome from 2004-2008. I used to travel a good bit for work, and we could always count on a decent Big East game at a bar in whatever town we were in.

And it seems like Troy has played a game every year on a weekday. I'm going to the South Alabama game next month on a Wednesday night. Most of theirs have been home games on a Friday night though. Take off work early, drive a couple hours to the game, then go spend the weekend with my family south of there and watch the big Saturday games. Never had a problem with it. But it does suck when they play on a Tuesday.

Two Thursday night games that stand out to me were when USC lost to Oregon State around 2007-2008 (I believe they may have been ranked No 1) and Florida State with Warrick Dunn losing to Virginia in the mid 90's, FSU may have been ranked No 1 as well.

ESPN and NFL both have lost their way in regards to picking which games to show. It's like some guy in an important meeting convinced everybody that the teams don't matter, people will watch whatever is on TV because the nation is so football-crazy. The NFL prime-time roster was laughable last year, and looks to be as bad or worse (worst) this year

In PURPLE JERSEYS, nonetheless! And...Miss St had their great coach Sylvester Croom, praised by USA Today in 2004 as a "groundbreaking hire".

It won't be long before another sports network is established, that shuns politics and sticks to sports. That will be the death blow to ESPN.

Didn't the Big 12 & Big 10 opt out of these games? The last Big 12 game I can remember was Oklahoma St. losing to Iowa St a few years back.

I think the SEC only played the opening week. So it wasn't like there were top matchups. However, it was a great alternative if the NFL game sucked.

I didn't know it was quite that long ago. I was thinking around 1994.

I thought that back in the 90's there were quite a few Thursday night SEC games and for quite a while there was one on every Thursday night.

I remember at one point in time reading that Auburn had played in more and had won more Thursday night games than anyone in the NCAA.

Not sure if this is all of them, but these are the games AU played on Thursdays with a combined record of 8-2.

Sept 2, 1993…….Home, W…..Auburn 16 – Ole Miss 12
Sept 29, 1994…..Home, W…..Auburn 41 – Kentucky 14
Sept 4, 1997…….Away, W…….Auburn 28 – Virginia 17
Sept 3, 1998…….Home, L…….Virginia 19 – Auburn 0
Aug 31, 2000……Home, W…..Auburn 35 – Wyoming 21
Sept 19, 2002…..Away, W……Auburn 42 – Mississippi State 14
Sept 28, 2006….Away, W……Auburn 24 – South Carolina 17
Oct 23, 2008……Away, L…….West Virginia 34 – Auburn 17
Sept 9, 2010…….Away, W……Auburn 17 – Mississippi State 14
Sept 18, 2014……Away, W……Auburn 20 – Kansas State 14
