I remember when Bert was hired many NON-Arky fans on here applauded the decision because he was a representation of the "run the ball and play defense" kind of football the SEC has traditionally stood for. He was supposed to be a lesser version of Nick Saban that eventually challenged Nick on the back of a superior strategy for winning.

Here we are years later and the SEC is completely infected by teams that don't follow the traditional SEC playbook. Those teams like Ole Miss are beating Nick Saban and his traditional model, while Bert has mostly been a failure up until this point. SEC-style football is only successfully being done at one program, and that program gets it done on the back of a rare talent at RB.

Is SEC-style football done for, never to return as the dominant force in the league? If not, what brings it back? If so, what killed it- rule changes or simply trends in the sport?

No, it's not dead

LSU's qb can only average 1/2 of a TD per game and they are still squeaking out victories by running the ball and playing decent defense

Rare?

LSU has been doing since 2000 to the tune of more wins and more SEC championships than anyone else.

The forward pass was invented, football is only going downhill from there.

If you didn't notice OP is like most Rant posts in that it ignores the existence of the SEC East.

SEC style football died with the wishbone offense.

I already KNOW LSU football started in the year 2000, that is too far back for my observation though.

For this subject the timeline started when Bert was hired. Since he was hired LSU hasn't won more than average teams, nor have they won any SEC titles. And yet I still gave them credit as the last carriers of the torch.

What happened to the rest of the SEC since then?

If you ask nicely, I'm sure the big bro admins will let you post on the Tiger Rant, since you clearly only want to talk about LSU.

Bert doesn't coach SEC-Stlye. He coaches BIg 10 style.

I.E. Gigantic Oline that can't block anyone who runs a sub 5.5 forty.

Ludwig at Vandy is trying to use that style, but our OL is just so bad that we can't pull it off. We're using tons of 2 TE sets.
