Sumlin lucked up having Manziel on the team in his first year coaching and set the bar far too high. He didn't develop Manziel, he just pretty much played flag football with the sec and won a lot of games. Would sumlin have lasted this long without Johnny?

No, he would have never gotten the massive extension and would have been easier to fire two years ago when we should have done it

Interesting...

Sumlin inherited a pretty loaded team thanks to Sherman. A&M had a great offense under Sherman. Ryan Tannehill at QB, etc...etc... So Sumlin showed up and had all kinds of talent to work with. A&M had a pretty good run defense when Sumlin came in.

What Manziel did was elevate the perception of Sumlin. Ags went 11-2 first year and that included a stomping of OU in Cotton Bowl. USC didn't give Orgeron the HC position and all of a sudden they were looking for a HC. Sumlin's name came up as a possibility.

Clear evidence now that USC was never interested in Sumlin and had no real intention of offering him the HC position. Sumlin's agent played it up and played A&M to get a raise and contract extension. One of our BOR recently slammed Sumlin after the UCLA game and said Sumlin's agent manipulated A&M for the raise.

So... Sumlin's agent got over on A&M and we are stuck with Sumlin. Seems pretty clear that Sumlin has a problem managing a program. Too many off the field issues, too many transfers out, etc...etc... Sumlin just doesn't seem cut out for this level of football.

Do you have Tourette's or something?

Aggy admins were intoxicated by their white trash booty from moving conferences and fell asleep at the wheel. Now they are feigning anger just ahead of the pitchforks. It's not anger, it's pride. They were bamboozled but that's not hard to do to aggy.

Probably. Their program is a mess.
Claim they are loaded but Westcoast said the difference between 11mil buyout and 15mill is to much to justify clipping Sumlin

Meanwhile a booster buys a 600k tank to park outside his house for fun. Confusing

I wouldn't exactly say he wasn't fit for the job. I mean, you guys trotted out one manziel clone after another trying to recreate it. So there's your offense. On top of that you got chief, which if you ask me, really was and is a huge hire.

The only problem was apparently Johnny Manziel was once in a generation and most qb's need coaching. If Kenny Hill ends up winning 10 games at TCU it will sure be a black eye.

It was their inability to recruit and coach a defense. 2012 was special for the Ags because of their defense not necessarily Manziel.

I actually feel bad for TAMU. The coach lucking into a job-saving player has become more and more of a problem in these days of cut-throat competition and ridiculous money being thrown at coaches just to prevent a university from losing out on a sleeper who'll be the next Saban. TAMU, for all that the Rant laughs at them, deserves better than Sumlin. Granted, I like TAMU posters on here (mostly) but it's hard not to see that they do love their football almost as much as any hardcore fan in the Southeast.

There is a some truth to this but JFF was 75% of it. Honestly if Ags were in the B12 that year we probably have 9 or maybe 10 wins. SEC offenses weren't geared towards A&M's defensive weakness which was our pass defense.

The La Tech game was as close to a B12 offense as we played that year until OU and we had a 5 hour shootout that started at 8pm and ended just before 1am up in Sheveport. We were there. Just too much JFF and we pulled it out 59-57 despite giving up 450 passing.

Sumlin's bank accont can thank JFF.

2012 was special because there were ZERO injuries.

Think about it. One starter from the 2012 team missed one game due to injury.

This was most apparent during two clear instances.

Louisiana Tech: Starting defensive players Howard Matthews (SS) and Steven Jenkins (WILL LB) were suspended and starting CB Deshazor Everett was injured. A&M went out to a 28-0 lead and barely hung on to win 59-57.

Sam Houston State: A&M led 47-0 in the 3rd quarter when they pulled the starters. Final score was 47-28.

Missouri: A&M led 42-0 when they pulled the defensive starters in the 2nd quarter. Final score was 59-29.

The 2013 defense had to replace starters Damontre Moore (WDE), Spencer Nealy (DT), Sean Porter (SAM), Jonathan Stewart (MIKE), Dustin Harris (CB), and Steven Terrell (FS). Of the backups from 2012 who replaced them:

-Kirby Ennis (NT) tore his ACL in the Arkansas game
-Donnie Baggs (MIKE) lost his starting job to a true freshman in game 3. Baggs was so terrible that A&M had to go to a base 4-2-5 because his backup was even worse
-Clay Honeycutt (FS) was so bad that Deshazor Everett had to slide to FS to replace him
