Did Avery Johnson just pull a reverse Bear Bryant?

Everyone knows Bryant was a cheater but he also fixed games.
The question is did Avery Johnson just lose on purpose to avoid UAB? If you think that's crazy just look at Alabama's past shenanigans.

I don't think it is either. I could see it being a diddy alter (his way of staying around without having to deal with all the crap he would get) more than a phan alter.
