watch the interview they are playing on SEC NOW all day. he's talking about dabol and the offense, and he says he wants to get back to what they used to do 3-4 years ago, it's a much better offense, etc.
my personal opinion - they are going to miss kiffen. i'm just not buying hurts as a decent passer. kiffen was scheming to get him wide open receivers and he could hit them.
with lsu's new offense and Alabama's new offense, I am optimistic we have a legitimate chance to win, and not just hang tough.

The most common phrases from Bama fans last season was "f'ing Kiffin!" and "Run the damn ball!" so if Bama fans miss anything about Kiffin, it will be cussing him on game day.

he's the head coach...if kiffin's offense was so lackluster why didn't he do something to change it?

The only year Bama relied on the passing game more then the run game was 2014.
Bama has just ran the ball to beat LSU the last two years, no passing needed.

Didnt Bama have it's highest scoring offense under saban, last year
highest rushing yards per game as well

That's because most Bama fans would have us run the Dave Raider Darby up the middle offense. Kiffin was the best OC we've had under Saban.
To OP we just don't know how good Daboll will do yet. I don't buy that we're going back to the offense pre Kiffin. We'll still have plenty of spread concepts but probably a slower tempo, more intermediate passing, and more traditional running plays.

We might want to see the actual quotes before we assume Saban said Kiffin's offense was "lackluster".

WHy? Bama had one of the better offenses on CFB iirc
I just looked and you were 10th in the country in rushing, 13th in total offense

Perhaps, a lot of the rushing yards was Hurts, some designed runs and some were not. But my point was Bama had a well known oc to cuss when we didn't like the play calls. At the end of the game Bama fans would sing Kiffin's praises, but during the game many would cuss and vent in the name of Kiffin.

saban didn't say anything about kiffin. it was indirect but it was there, if you comprehend that saban is saying he liked the offense better at a time when kiffin wasn't running it.

We have to yell, curse, scream and bitch during a ball game or it's no fun. The second half of many of Bama's games over the years have been boring. Kiffin gave us a perfect setting to raise hell.

Kiffin's "big play" offense is fine for putting up stats. But, it's wildly inconsistent. It can create a lot of points fast, but it can also cause several 3 and outs in a row.
I prefer the pre-kiffin offenses.

Kiffin' offense could be frustrating but I had to learn to trust it. So much horizontal shite to start games that would be inconsistent at best. Then he would start attacking with the downhill running game and start gashing opposing defenses who were tired from running sideline to sideline. Add in the big plays he was good at dialing up and it was hard to complain with the results. Biggest issue seemed that the offense was way more penalty prone in terms of false starts, illegal formations, delay of game etc. Just didn't seem well organized at times.

Kiffin was hired to come in an create a hybrid offense. To mix pro-style with some spread elements. Kiffin did that very well his first two seasons. Last year, he went full spread and the inability to run, control the clock, move the chains, etc killed us in the natty and made our offense pretty ineffective against strong defenses like LSU, Washington, etc. We had a 10 point lead heading into the 4th quarter with Clemson. If we had just been able to grind out some 5-6 minute drives the game was over. But it was 3 and out, after 3 and out with no time off the clock.
Saban never wants to see that happen again, and neither do I. We will go back to a true hybrid with Daboll--more like we saw early in the Kiffin era at Bama with a few more pro-style wrinkles specific to the Patriots philosophy. Should be interesting.

We relied on big plays for points/scores. Which is nice, don't get me wrong. But we lacked the ability to control the clock/game when we needed, which leads to many 3 and outs, and negative plays.
It also showed up in the redzone.
Reminds me of Arkansas when they had Petrino. They always struggled to close out games because they couldn't control the clock.

Kiffin is a brilliant OC. Douche. But he can exploit a defense as well as a sorority girl
