Perhaps the media could do a story that focuses the effects of rape on the victims, and how it's a crime of power and control rather than sex. Examine what drives people to rape.

Don't make the mistake of projecting the misguided opinions of biased Internet message board posters onto those who actually vote.

Dear lord, I'd hate to be falsely accused if a girl decides the next morning she feels guilty about it.

LOL you don't think this psychological study hasn't been done a 100x already and discussed on tv because I have seen many shows on it over the years. Are you a woman by any chance?

As a matter of fact, yes, I'm a woman. Who loves sports. Maybe the sports media could put a sports slant on it - what drives athletes to rape?

A media outlet other than ESPN or a sports network would be better suited for this.

To be fair...this police report was filed at 4 AM...indicating she went to the police soon after the alleged incident happened.

Well in that case she better pick 10 athlete rapists and work them into a slideshow.

I wasn't speaking of this case, just in general about getting life in prison for rape.

I agree with you completely. But then, the message may not reach the sports fan, who worship athletes and immediately assume the woman is lying when she accuses a high-profile athlete of rape.

I don't want to get on a soapbox about this, I just look at things through a slightly different lens since I have done a lot of volunteer work with abuse victims. I've noticed that every time an athlete is accused of rape, and it's discussed on here, there are always a few (at least) people who immediately assume the woman is lying. That these guys wouldn't need to rape someone, they could get sex when they wanted it, so it couldn't be rape, that the girl must have changed her mind the next day, or cried rape to get the back at the guy for something.

And I'm not saying that doesn't happen, it definitely does. But not that often - rape is still the most under-reported crime. Anyway, just my random thought on a Wednesday night.
