LSU didn't stop AU last year. Jake Holland did.

That was just a freaking lucky game and one of LSU's biggest flub ups I've seen in a while. Bro Wallace channeled his inner Garcia in that game.
indeed. and Mett channeled his inner Romo too. Truly bad decisions on his part trying to do too much and blow them out. Backfired.

LSU

they are good at stopping the Spread O because their DBs/LBs are talented enough to man-up... they will give up big plays every once and awhile due to blown positioning but for the most part its a 7 on 7, who's the most athletic type game.

im excited!

That narrative would work but we dominated your defense in 2012 too. We've had 1000 yards and 62 points in two years so its not just a fluke like y'all want. We turned the ball over too both games.

Defenses are going to have to find a middle ground at some point to be able to combat both styles. While Auburn certainly wasn't the model defense last year, we did some things very well, and I think we at least have it figured out. We just had some holes to fill on D in the talent portion of it. We'll see what happens as this year goes on against power and spread/hunh teams, but I think we at least have the right idea. Speed is always going to help you win, but you still need to have power in the middle of the field at DT and LB.

You have guys that are very versatile - i.e. the star role that you can leave on the field and play OLB or drop back in coverage with the DB's.

Also, we're as good as it gets with subbing out. Teams are going to have to work on their efficiency of getting new players on the field. The HUNH teams want to keep defenses on the field, but they also will sub at times, and when they do, you have to be ready. We have whole packages of guys waiting on the sideline to sub in as soon as that other team sends a guy off, especially on the D line. If you don't have a plan in place to get your guys off the field, especially your DL, you're screwing yourself.

It showed last year against both styles too with a big rotation on the DL. We usually played about 10 or so guys along the line a game and against both spread/hunh teams and power teams, it showed when our D line was fresh at the end the game. I think we'll start seeing more and more wholesale substitutions along the line too.

Yards don't win games. Points do.

Yes, LSU stopped AU and A&M

People forget in 2011 LSU have up yards to both Oregon and WVU and still won by double digits. Like they did vs AU and A&M.

This is such a myth. They've had great success against Texas A&M. Other teams that play fast have had a lot of success against the lsu defense. Even in a losing effort teams like WVU and Oregon racked up yards and points against lsu. Then you have teams like OM and Clemson that have parlayed that success into victories. They do a great job against the aggies, but to say they've had great success against that style of offense in general would be incorrect, and they've had light and fast defenses for years.

And Auburn, but mainly in 2009 and 2011.

When Auburn has quality players, LSU has trouble stopping the offense.

I think Bamas struggles against HUNH are about coaching, not personnel.
Been saying this since Saban started crying about the HUNH. Bama's players are fast enough and not getting wore out against the good offenses. Their coaching or brains are what is causing the problems.

Bama was the only team that shut out Ole Miss HUNH offense.

It's not just the last two years LSU's D has been that way since Chief arrived.

No team stops it all the time just like no team gets beat by it all the time. Just like every other offense.

WVU LSU 2011 is a perfect example. WVU could get chunk yards, but couldn't hold onto drives. They had the most yards of any team against LSU, but man they looked like deer in a headlight doing so. Their defense broke down way too quickly also.

We had 526 yards of offense. Did Mett throw for all of those too?
