I disagree. It is designed to showcase the 2 top rated teams in a national championship game. Just like in basketball and baseball there is nothing stopping 2 teams from the same conference for playing in the national title game.

Isn't OSU's resume built on perception too? You argue that we don't know who is better because Bama/OSU didn't play (all we are left with is perception) and then go on to argue OSU's resume over Bama's, which is perception. Rankings are just opinions, and as such, saying they had a tougher schedule is opinion.

The BCS was designed to get around these perceptions, but its voters failed the system.
In 2004 I thought the system was redone so that perception (voters) would NOT be trumped by the computers which got OU in.

I will say there is no way Okie State could beat Bama

Point being, if you put OSU and Bama's resumes side by side and remove the team names from the top, a majority of people would select OSU's as the more deserving resume (more wins over top 10 teams, over top 25 teams, conference champion, etc). The ONLY reason Alabama has made it to New Orleans is because voters could not get past the PERCEPTION of Alabama. They could not view the resumes un-named.

Team 1
Beat #11, 15,19
Lost #unrated

Team 2
Beat #7 #24
Lost #1

I don't think beating #15 and #19 make up for losing to a 6-6 opponent but that is just my logical opinion.

If you put "lost to Iowa State" on a resume, then you're probably not going to make many championship games

Iowa State is a Big 12 team, unlike La Tech, one of the two teams the gumps lost to in 1999. Bama really should remove the SEC banner from 1999 with your logic.

Also, if we're just gonna bitch about who should be number two etc, then we might as well bitch about who should have been ranked #7 or #24 at the time we played them. Do you think Auburn should have been ranked #24 in the country when they played Alabama when their record was 7-4? Pretty sure their NC last year changed this years "perception".

Is anyone seriously using rankings from when they played? That is the stupidest thing ever. The only legit rankings are the most up to date rankings. Who gives a shite if Florida or Texas were ranked in the top 25 at one point, they both sucked and shouldn't be counted like a top 25 win.

I don't think anyone is using old rankings, but I was alluding to how the OP was saying the "perception" of Alabama is the only thing that got them in. Perception isn't applied to Alabama only. Just for shits and giggles, I'm pretty sure losing to Iowa State is perceived as a worse loss than losing to LSU

Does their resume say they lost to a 24 pt underdog? If so, I don't think most people would think it is the best resume.
