The kid took reading classes. If he was 18 or 19 and had to take them, then there was a breakdown beyond that of just starting school late. Most of us were bringing home sight reader books in 1st grade. Or before that at age 5 in Kindergarten. I can remember getting cash for the book fair while I was 7 or 8 years old. That's a full decade before Ridley was having his reading issues.
This comparison has nothing to do with race. Whatsoever. What the implication is here is that Ridley had plenty of time to improve his reading skills prior to the point in time he was taking a standardized test to gain admission into a post-secondary institution.

I believe Ridley's family are immigrants from Haiti or Cuba or something. He is from extreme poverty and was socialized to American society at a much different pace than a simpleton like you would understand. Ridley never failed a grade nor was he held back. He just started late. The same is true of his younger brother who is already enrolled at Georgia and will turn 20 this summer before playing a game as a freshman.
