this turns out to be one of those typical LSU melts that last several years
We're witnessing the beginnings of the largest melt in Rant history... First LSU fires their coach on the spot during the first month of the season after an emotional loss... And then when Herman doesn't accept the HC job later this year.. Watch out.

The start followed a penalty .The clock should have started on the snap of the ball.
Ref should have blown the play ready, LSU should have had a fresh 25 seconds and the game clock would start on the snap.

Where were you before the LSU game last year?
Oh trust me I remember it. Even then I didn't understand how my likable face didn't make the cut.

The ref never signaled ready for play to my knowledge
You can hear him blow his whistle. A second easily passes before the center snaps the ball.

Scoreboard operators don't run the clock. A referee does.

If you watch the replay, you can hear the whistle. Since the ref is behind the QB, a whistle is the only way the QB knows the play can start.

It gets a bit distorted by the crowd noise, but its there. I was about 15 rows up in that endzone corner, there was a whistle. pretty much everyone in the sections around us were going nuts until they said they would review.

That's correct.

That is incorrect. If the previous penalty had been on the defense you would be correct, but it wasn't. It was on the offense. Thus the penalty is walked off, the ball is spotted and the clock is started on the referees signal.

what a former coach said

On the last play (more): “I wanted to make sure that happened. I did not see the flag, but was told the flag was thrown. I wondered if his foot was in bounds and it was. When they came back and said they were going to see if play clock had started or expired, I figured that the penalty … if there was a penalty, it was the end of the game. With us staring at the clock, I did not figure out that we had — even with the clock — it would be a difficult victory.”
Indeed. If the flag was thrown (and it seems like the refs told Miles that a flag was thrown, likely for illegal motion (#83 not being set at the line)) then Auburn accepts the penalty, the clock is 0:00, and the game ends.
Because the game CAN end on an offensive penalty.
But do go on with your awesome melt OP.

It is impossible to snap the ball in one second.

I believe Etling. Referees in the state of Alabama are known cheaters.

We needed them since LSU players and coaches were blatantly cheating at the end of the game...

There are 3 sure things in life....death, taxes and LSU fans bitching about getting "screwed" by the officials. I wonder what the over/under on number of threads started by LSU fans in the off season calling for the SEC offices to be moved from Birmingham will be?

It caused us to lose and fire ole Les Miles. Why are LSU fans not happy about this.
