Funny how proud gumps are of beating the worst AU team since the 70's with the best Bama team of the decade at home. Even doing paintings as if 500 shirts and bumper stickers were not enough. Hell our pitiful team gave you all you wanted until we gave a couple of gift touchdowns in the 3rd and dinky went deep to try and run it up late.

Guess it isn't that surprising. Beating their daddy is a MASSIVE accomplishments for the gumps that hasn't happened on a regular basis since the 1970's. Most gumps have never even seen it happen, just heard Bama was once better on a regular basis. Almost seems like an urban myth to many I would guess.

Probably, what he is referring to is the fact that Saban said that the fans were part of the reason for the loss in the Sugar Bowl. He didn't necessarily blame the fans, but he said that no one was really excited to be there and that trickled down to the players.

He also apologized later for saying what he did. I don't blame hime for saying it in the first place...just not much pizzazz from anybody heading into that game.

I'm sure your 6 year streak had nothing to do with the NCAA putting us on the deathbed. Right?

But, please, continue hanging your hat on that golden age of API football. You wasted away the time we were wandering in the woods, when you could have been capitalizing on it to change the state for good. But no, you are still the red headed step child that is unpopular in your own home state.

I think our walk in the wilderness might have just made us stronger- we now have one of the best coaches in CFB, a soon to be 100,000+ seat stadium, and a growing stockpile of elite talent. Something tells me that things are getting back to normal around here. If 36-0 (the largest IB blowout in 50+ years) didn't bring you back to reality, then I'm not sure what will.

Hilarious, coming from a school that hasn't won a MNC since 1957.

You probably weren't alive then, and you probably won't be alive for the next claim either.

That works both ways, Barner. You guys sure liked to brag about your 6 wins in a row...all against the worst Bama teams in decades, I might add. Not only were those teams bad, but there was no depth to speak of.

Also...your best team in decades couldn't seem to tack on a few extra TDs against a bad Bama team, could it?

Normal?

Lets see...

2000's: Bama on probation, pretty much domination by AU.

1990's: AU on probation, Bama better but managed 3 in a row only and the decade as a whole was not dominated as much as AU has this decade.

1980's: AU won 6 and Bama was VERY lucky AU did not win 8 as they were the far supperior team. It took Bo getting the play call wrong in the huddle and 3 missed short field goals by 4 eyes in one game and Van Tiffin's miracle in another to prevent AU from winning 7 straight. AU had the better team 7 years running in the 80's and was the SEC team of that deacade.

So the last time things were "normal" and neither team was on extended probation, AU was much better. Normal equal AU>>>Bama since the 70's. And since I wasn't around in the 60's and 70's, AU being better than Bama is what is normal for me.

1980 to present - Auburn 16-13 over Bama...Auburn a lil better, but 3 game advantage in 29 years is not much better.

Well, since that is 28 years running AU has the better record, normal is NOT bama > AU. At least not in my lifetime. Personally I would rather my team be better in my lifetime than someone else's.

It certainly could have. The only differences are your coach tried to run it up and ours did not. Also, 2004 bama > 2008 AU. Face it that win last year was against the worst AU team I have seen in my lifetime.

Well, if I went back to the year I was born, I think Bama would be up a game or two. But since I wasn't really aware of what football was when I was 1 or 2 years old, I will just go from my earliest memories which were when I was when I was 5-6 in the early 80's. I think probably the first game I remember anything about listening to or watching was AU-UGA in '82 when AU nearly beat a much better UGA team with Walker.

You were born very conveniently for a barner. Congrats!

But how many National Titles do you remember?

I think you only have to go back to the 80's to find a better decade than this one. 4 SEC championships > one.

I was. Got lucky. Missed the Barfield years and just old enough to remember the beginning of the Dye era which was maybe AU's best. Second memory I have of football though was Bear 315 in 1982. That still wasn't bad though. Bama was much better, it was at LF, and AU played well and led at the half.

We both remember from about age 5-6 which is when you start to kindergarten and first grade so sounds about right. My parents tell me they started taking me to AU games when I was 2 years old, but of course I don't remember anything from that. Literally the very first football game I remember was the AU-UGA game in 1982 and I remember listening to it on the radio with my parents.
