The latest spin I've heard:
Mullen was going to Maryland. They were discussing numbers and the paperwork was in place. Richt got fired and he discontinued talks with the Terrapins anticipating that he was about to be the next guy up in Athens. Smart lands the job and then Danger Dan and his agent go all in looking to land in South Beach. Richt edges him out and here he is -- stuck in Starkville, MS with a job he despises and a fanbase who absolutely hates him.
I am sort of butthurt that he just snagged Jeffery Simmons from us. That would've landed Ole Miss the best class in the country.

Eta: I can't be sure, but I can only assume you picked up those quotes from ED and 6pack, which we all know has a history of being medium of choice for the overly vocal and irrational minority of State fans.

What a complete and utter lack of class shown by Mississippi State University today. I just cannot get over this. He is the best coach in the history of your program. It will be complete devastation if Coach Mullen leaves that program -- which he has every right to do considering the audacity and superciliousness shown by such an undeserving bunch
