I don't understand Tennessee fans who want Martin to leave or those who have been disappointed with his performance. The guy came into a very unfair situation with UT fans expecting him to work miracles like Pearl and he's given them three pretty good seasons, including a Sweet 16 appearance. UT is not a basketball powerhouse school, quit whining and be careful what you wish for.

I see both sides of it. I understand the fan criticism up until the tournament run. He had a very talented roster all year but never truly maximized it. I don't think it was out of reach for Tennessee fans to expect this team to be one of the top teams in the SEC this season. But I also see that he dealt with injury issues last season (hence their run late in the season) and that it's tough to follow someone like Pearl. I can also understand feeling slighted by the lack of a contract extension.

But if he goes somewhere like Marquette, if he's bothered by fan expectations he's going to be unhappy there as well. Especially since they're always looking for their next Al McGuire.

Part of our fanbase is already trying to run off Holly. I think a lot of people seriously underestimate how big basketball is for our fan base. We're as bad as UK in terms of basketball obsession albeit smaller and more prone to lighting mattresses on fire than couches.

But it's not like Marquette and OOC schools are lacking in basketball obsession or expectations.

We have been to 5 sweet 16s since 2000 with 3 different coaches. Our expectation level is just fine.

That's a sure sign you're not from a basketball school. If you were then you'd understand, perhaps not wanting him to leave but the disappointment yeah you'd understand.

Rob Lewis says VOLS are willing to pay $2M+ for a basketball coach next season, but would not be willing to go that high to retain Cuonzo.

I'm curious, how far does Cuonzo's contract extend? I can understand not giving him something like a one year extension if he's not already locked in for a that length of time.

he's not worth it... i don't really mind UTs approach in all of this... but they need to be prepared to end up looking foolish if/when he walks and they don't hire better or equal replacement.

^I would be shocked if Hart ponied up the cash. So far, he hasn't shown me that he cares about anything other than football. Hope he does care but I don't trust him yet.

Then I have to redact my comment about unhappiness over not having the extension. He should probably be glad they made the tourney run and he didn't get canned.

Hopefully Wilbon doesn't catch wind. I'd hate to see any other school go through that BS just because they have higher expectations for their program.

Tennessee has never even made a final four, any coach that can take it's shite tier program to the tournament deserves an extension.

TN is mostly likely screwed either way. They will have to give the current coach a new deal that will cost millions more to get out of if things go bad or end up overpaying for a new coach that's probably not going to better.

Tennessee fans never learn. How have you guys been since you forced out Phil Fulmer? Be careful what you wish for. That's all I'm saying.

I would like to see Zo retained, but I am not too worried either way. It will work its way out. I just hope we maintain high expectations for the Men's BB program.

Going back UT has been able to upset UK in some of UK's better years so it means you have a group of UT fans that remember the good old days of Stokley. Problem is back then the Gators sucked in basketball and now they draw talent in the east where they did not in the old days. My guess is this causes much mixed emotions in the part of the Vol fanbase that write the bigger checks.

Well being a fan of our men's team is like constantly being on the edge of orgasm and not being able to get there and what makes it worse is that it's been that way forever. And then there's the years in between DON MOTHERfrickING DEVOE where they can't even get it up. I think that's a big part of it.

If you guys let him go, you better have an ace in the hole. I think Martin is gonna be good.

They lost their ace in the hole when Buzz Williams went to VT.
If Martin leaves I would go after Howland.
