Now generally I like to make fun of Freeze but I can't find it in me to criticize someone for caring about their players.

This is comical. I'm flattered by the effort OP put into thinking and writing about this. And it's just so straight damn weird.

I get that he's a Christian coach and he uses his religion heavily in his recruiting pitch

And those players know that when they commit to play for him. It's a part of who he is and a part of his identity as a coach. They have a choice of whether or not they want to be a part of a program that is run like that. Apparently, there's no shortage of talent that wants to play for the "creepy" guy.
Exactly. If they received scholarship offer from OM then they were good enough to haves received offers else where. They chose to go to OM knowing full well how it was going to be.

Public prayer isn't allowed in public schools. Freeze works for a public institution funded with public tax dollars. He's employing John Powell as a "Religious Coach" AKA Chaplain to keep his flock of football players under the spell of Freeze's particular religious beliefs on the tax payers money. That's not only creepy it's illegal. Ole Miss is the only SEC team to employ a Religion Coach. When Ole Miss eventually gets sued they'll lose the lawsuit and ban Freeze's religious activity on campus.
eta - Religion is religion. Baptist, Muslim, Buddism - they're all spiritual beliefs with massive followings who are devout in their belief. Freeze has co-opted his fire and brimstone brand of Christian religious beliefs and forced them on Ole Miss football players. His heart is in the right place but his mind is not. What he's doing is the very definition of intolerance. Is he offering any Muslim services in the Team Meeting Rooms?

Freeze doesn't require anything of his players except that they go to class (closely monitored), attend practice and be good citizens. If they do not do those things, they are gone. I'm not particularly a fan of the Tebow-Freeze practice of talking about religious beliefs before, during or after a game, but we have the right of free speech. No one is required to attend ANY religious services at Ole Miss. Period. Players can make their own decisions in this regard.

False.

Freeze has done a great job at Ole Miss. He might be the closest thing to a father figure some of those kids have ever had.

Not sure I have any issue with freeze tbh. I think he's a decent coach who has learned on the job and tried to keep who he was the whole time.

Apparently he builds personal relationships with players and that's his method of building a team. It would make me uncomfortable. How does that work when he has to discipline a player or when a player doesn't love him back?
You're a little anti-social, huh?

A "Religion Coach"
I love it as a proper noun. My HS coach showed us General Patton. Point is these guys are trying to be a positive influence.
