Why do you say that? Just curious. Is it his coaching, personality, both?

You don't want Crean. If he can't get it done somewhere like Indiana (and it's clear he's been riding on Dwyane Wade's coattails long enough) then he isn't going to get it done at Alabama.

I'd go Ben Howland before I'd go Crean. Otherwise throw the kitchen sink at an Archie Miller type.

SI did a pretty nasty hit piece on him and the UCLA program under his watch. He carries a lot of baggage now. There's a reason he is still unemployed after two coaching change cycles.

If I was Alabama, I would definitely hire Ben Jacobson. He has never had a losing season and has been to the NCAA tourney 3 times. He has had Northern Iowa ranked in the top 20 all year this year after leading them to a 30-3 record. He would be the best choice of the mid major coaches, assuming that Shaka Smart and Gregg Marshall won't leave for Alabama.

In all seriousness, I don't think he anticipated the shitshow egos he was going to have with the last squad he had at UCLA and he ended up letting the inmates run the asylum.

Maybe, maybe not. There are a long list of Ben Jacobsons who got hired at P5 programs and proceeded to be fired 5 years later.

I just don't know what to think of Howland. He has had such a long career and his reputation has gone so many different ways from the good days at Pitt to the end at UCLA I don't know what to think.

He clearly wants to get back into things, and if he brings what he brought at Pitt then he'd be a great get. However, I don't know if (a) he still has that or (b) that works in 2015.

Yeah I agree. Before his stint at UCLA he was pretty clean. He got mixed up in the pressure, corruption, agents, and politics that comes with that job. I think he learned his lesson and wants to end his career on a high note.

He is the one I wanted Mizzou to hire on this last go 'round. I certainly would of been okay with Marshall, but didn't think he would come, which, of course, he didn't.

Shut the frick up, until you learn something and stop parroting nonsense you read on a sports forum.

There's also lots that work pretty well. Bruce Pearl, Billy Donovan, and Mark Fox were all at mid-majors before getting hired by SEC programs. They have turned out well.

I'll be ecstatic with Cream as head coach as long as he brings Dwyane Wade along with him.

His star has fallen awfully far since going to Bloomington. At this point, it doesn't make sense to have fired Gottfried. He is now working on his fourth consecutive tournament appearance. Crean has missed one of the last two.

After the countless pieces on the Ben Howland era at UCLA, I'm not sure why you people keep bringing his name up. There is a reason he hasn't been hired anywhere since the hatchet was dropped on him.

Dear Bama,

Please don't bring this loser to the SEC. He can recruit okay but he has been out coached by every other Big X coach. He will add nothing to Bama and SEC basketball.

In a country that believes in second chances, Howland deserves it also.
