Having gone to three BCS era NC games, I'm wondering what others are paying to attend the NC game. I was checking out prices on stubhub and you can get an upper level seat for 250. Face value 450. Seems demand is lacking. Perhaps it's the economy.

Also, airfare prices are sky high. I assume hotels are like wise. I'm staying home and watching on my big screen.

I saw airfare from Birmingham over 1000. Hotel rooms over 300 night and more. Just curious if anyone will share what their total outlay will be to see the the game .

Hope everyone going has a good time.

My parents took my girlfriend and me to the Sugar Bowl last year. They got some package, but I remember it shocking me when I heard how expensive it was. I don't want to take a guess because I honestly forget what it was...but I literally stopped dead in my tracks and thought, "oh.my.god."

To fly out of Charlotte was nearly $1200. Once I saw that, I decided it wasn't worth the trip and didn't look into hotels. If the game was within a reasonable driving distance or flying wasn't so expensive, I'd be there, but it's not worth over $2,000 for a two-day turnaround.

In 2007, the package my family got through the LSU alumni association for the BCS Title game, which included two nights in a hotel and game tickets I wanna say was like 1700-1800 a person. And that didn't include travel expenses or anything else. And that was 8 years ago.

And now with the playoffs, where you have two rounds of this, no way fans will continue to pay these type of prices. With the accessibility of the sport now through media outlets, the bubble on all this will eventually burst.

I've always thought it was pretty ridiculous to have to go to two neutral site games in that short of a time period. You'd have to spend a fortune going to both

Can't speak for Bama fans, but the Orange Bowl had tickets dropping down below $150 for really good seats. You could sit up top for about $50 apiece. Knowing we were going a month ahead of time also meant we could book a flight and hotels ahead of the game.

The championship game is a total disaster in regards to going in such a short span. I think next year will be much better for fans in our region with a semifinal in Atlanta and the title in Tampa.

that's the thing. if you want to go to the championship game, you might as well just skip the first round and buy insurance on plane tickets and buy tickets to the championship game in advance and sell them on the secondary market if your team doesn't make it. i have no idea how most people afford to take two trips like that back to back weekends, much less take time off of work to go, at the drop of a hat, right after the holidays

That's why NOLA,Dallas, Houston, ATL should be sites for NC game. Semi's should be at higher rated teams stadium.

I booked tickets and room on points way ahead of time.

I priced it a few weeks ago for the wife and I to go, just for shits and giggles.

Tickets - $900(assuming we'd pay face)
Flight for 2 - $1450
3 nights hotel - Found a decent one for $225 per night in Scottsdale, so $675 plus taxes and parking.

So before we even landed we were looking at $3000. Figure $100-$200 per day in food and entertainment, so we were almost to $4000.

We're fortunate enough to be able to afford that, but smart enough to save that money for something else. She's not a huge football fan to begin with.

Thought about going, checked ticket prices, hotel and flights and it was coming out to around 3k per person(9k for my family). After the holidays that's a lot of scratch, decided we're going to watch it at the house.

Bingo. Was going to run wife and I somewhere around $4500 and that was being as cheap as possible. So the 60" will have to do

How do basketball fans do it with the NCAA tournament?
Your team never gets more than 7 days notice on whether they're playing at the next site.

The day of huge numbers of fans going anywhere to see their teams play is fast ending. LSU has reduced its visitors alotment in fball from 7K to 6K (for 2016 season) mainly because our fans rarely want more than 6K tickets to SEC away games.

My wife and I are now retired and we talked about what if LSU ever got into the CFP. We enjoy slow driving trips and would probably go IF we were willing to drive.

If we ever expanded the CFP to 8 teams tickets would be even cheaper as demand would decrease even more.

For away Clemson games, we're fortunate that we live in Charlotte. We can get to Wake Forest, UNC, Duke, NC State, Va Tech, and Ga Tech pretty easily.

I have family in Tallahassee, so we make the trip to FSU every other year as well. But it'll be a cold day before we go to BC, Cuse, or Miami. Would like to go to BC if we could intertwine it with a Sox game, but we usually play them in October, and it's more of a bucket list than anything.

I feel ESPN and the conferences will have to address the financial aspect of this new playoff for the average fan. With the economy etc, it appears many are not going due to over the top costs.

With the old BCS, you had 5 weeks to book travel etc. this left time to plan Christmas, New Years and still have money for the game

I said this was gonna be a big issue for the playoffs when it was announced two years ago. The expense of traveling to two bowl games across the country for most fans, around the holidays, is going to kill attendance. They need to move the first round to a home game for the higher seed.
