Nick Saban has an oil well waiting for him somewhere round Odessa and all his debt got paid off by UT boosters.
There's like a 300 page thread with half of the posts by Chicken that claim this is the gospel truth.

4. Sly Croom's hiring saved us from major NCAA trouble.
I think the NCAA just wanted Jackie gone. Given what the NCAA actually found, which totaled appx. $1,500.00 in inducements to guys that never signed/played with us, we weren't getting more than a loss of scholarships and a bowl ban (like that actually mattered at the time). I guess there's a possibility that we could have lost more scholarships.

My personal conspiracy theory is that Fran, having already reached an agreement to coach A&M, struck a deal with Tubbs and threw the Iron Bowl in 2002 to save Tubberville's job.
Reasons to support this theory: I'm fairly positive Fran had already agreed with A&M. The Auburn week in 2002 was the only week of the season in which we did not practice in full pads once. Practices were not hyped like they should have been for a rivalry game, and the coaches seemed distracted. The play-calling that game was abysmal. Maybe Fran had just checked out, but I suspect something more nefarious.

Saban was coming back to Baton Rouge had Les Miles actually officially taken the Michigan job in 2007.
I think Miles actually verbally agreed to the Michigan job in 2007 and backed out when they won the SEC Championship and realized they would play for the National Title.
I had heard around that time that Les was going to Michigan and LSU had started the search for a new coach. Les had asked Michigan and LSU to keep it quiet until after the SEC Championship game but someone leaked it to ESPN and that pissed Les off to where he backed out of the deal. Rumor is that it was Michigan boosters that were not fans of Les as the coach.

Nah, Fran was just never a good coach. He got lucky in prior stops and was the Peter Principle manifest. He was a creation of his own marketing and hype. The guy had a biographer on payroll when he came to A&M. I mean... wow. Eventually his luck ran out and he had to actually coach his way to success. But couldn't.

There was a fight in the locker room before the NC game in 2011 started by T-Bob Hebert over who should be the starting QB.

is it a theory if it's true?

I'm not commenting on his ability as a coach.
I can tell you that he had almost surely reached an agreement with A&M before the game, practices that week were different, and the game plan was uninspired.
It's still a conspiracy theory. But, like Fox Mulder, I want to believe.

Your not the only one who heard that. But the 'letting Tuberville win' part doesn't make sense.

I know that Saban was interested in coming back...how interested, we will never know.
This is the winner amongst conspiracy theories. Sadly, you continue to believe it.

Unless he and Tubbs were friends. Tubbs was in hot water, and that Iron Bowl win likely saved his job.

one thing that revved up some black helicopters about all of that was Saban did indeed fly back to Baton Rouge while the Miles to Michigan rumors were taking place. However, Saban and his "party" were down there finalizing some sort of business transaction he had in BR and was selling/etc.
But the ol' flight tracker did have Saban going to Baton Rouge.

I highly doubt Saban gave LSU a thought. He wouldn't give Bama much thought until the Dolphins season was over with, and that was with the entire sporting world asking him about it for weeks on end.
