Rankings after the conference champion are subject and teams can get hot towards the end of the year or end up with better resumes than division winners. aTm finished 3rd in their division and top 5 in the nation last year
You can't deny that USC has one of the best collection of wins in the nation. Mizzou, USC and Bama are all worthy and could be argued for the number 2 spot behind Auburn

No, a worthy team does not lose to Tennessee, end of debate.
That loss kept you out of the conference championship. That loss kept you off anyone's radar for doing anything this year.
Blame that loss, not the guy pointing you towards reality.

Think you've got the cap 1 and Outback confused.
Cap 1 picks ahead of both bowls and gets the number 1 spot after BCS bowls. They take west teams fairly regularly.
Outback and Cotton essentially have the same spot with Outback having first dibs on East teams and Cotton having first dibs on West teams. This is why Cotton usually gets West teams and Outback East teams
Cap 1 > Cotton

So the only team in the nation with 3 wins vs the top 15 and 6 victories over bowl winners is declared invalid because of one loss on the road in the SEC? For national title purposes, sure I could get behind that logic. For number 2 in the conference though I think the resume deserves to be in the pile for consideration

Who said anything about "invalid" just 3rd or 4th in the SEC.

If you can't win your division and the team you lost to can't win the championship, your resume is not in the pile for #2. That's math.

We finished number 2 asswhipe. Tbh if we played Auburn n the SEC championship I don't see them stopping Shaw and our receivers plus MD.
