East Texas is pretty much the south.

Texas begins to favor the west once you get to Austin/San Antonio area.

Dallas and Houston are melting pots but both favor the south in many different ways.

Texas is very unique, but I do not think the border of Texas separates it from the south or the west.

I was at that game. Incredible game and while we lost it was fun to be there in person....

...almost as much fun as going to the Bama - Notre dame game.

Its always been that way since I have been here JD.

You can have some great discussions between the shenanigans in a thread if you want or, if you feel like that day, make a little hay and stir the pot. Makes the site fun if you're asking me.

The second round. It caused the Big X to bring in Maryland and Rutgers.

Seriously, were they thinking those two schools were similar to A&M and Mizzou?

You have to look at the B1G picture.

B1G started realignment in 89 when they made a play for Notre Dame. They got Penn State but never got the Irish to sign on the bottom line and stayed at the goofy Big Televen while the SEC took 2 lemons and made lemonade with the SEC CCG.

If it had moved correctly this might have been the path.

in 92' you add Texas A&M and South Carolina as both were already in the old SIAA and SoCon and both had scheduling histories with SEC schools. Both were little brothers so you use that to build out in those states. (Imagine the market penetration in TX if TAMU had been added in 92 instead of 12)

Next you add UNC and UVA back when the ACC sucked and before they added Florida State. That puts 2 more former SIAA and SoCon schools back in the fold and takes you to 14. After that you add 2 from this list to get to 16 :

Arkansas
Oklahoma
Missouri
Kansas
Maryland
Tulane (get the band back together and mess with Ga Tech's mind in one swoop)

Sewanee* (make them an honorific like the B1G did when U of Chicago dropped out of the B1G)

Imagine the value of that SEC network?

For what it's worth, I listen to the opinions of other posters like y'all & really appreciate reading em.
I simply ignore (and pray for) the rest.
I keep explaining to God how awful some of his "flock" are, down here on the SECr; and he keeps responding to me with the same words:

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7

So I guess I'll carry on.

Yea, Im with you. Have met a lot of really cool people here honestly.

I have had a blast. It has its ups and downs but this has got to be the best college athletic site in the country. All the TD.com forums are fun as well.

Thats a good post. I really think that, not being a homer, if the B1G would have thought that Mizzou was heading for the SEC the following year after poaching Nebraska, they would have done more to grab Mizzou at that time. Nebraska had only one option outside the Big 12 and that was the B1G. When Mizzou balked at the JR membership and wanted to negotiate Delaney "big timed" Mizzou and moved on.

Slive and the SEC has won expansion in a profound way. Glad we got to be a part of that quite honestly.

Folks always forget that if the B1G had not been so aggressive going after the Irish, realignment probably never happens. IND schools like Penn State, Florida State, and other probably never give up IND status for safety net.

Nebraska had tried several times to join the B1G going back around 100 years - they wanted the spot Ohio State eventually got - and they tried again years later. Third time was the charm for those guys.

Happened in the past when the SEC added Hogs and Cocks. Everybody else wanted the bigger school but the SEC took the schools that could build out. They just did it again with Missouri and Texas A&M. They looked at schools they could build out to grow the brand with less ego issues.

If SEC had taken Texas, Clemson, or Florida State just imagine the prima donna issues they would have brought to the conference.

And has, two conferences and counting...

Its hilarious that everyone outside the current Big 12-2 sees this.

You all can make fun of me for having a "soft, pussy" moment but I thank my lucky stars that Mizzou ended up in the SEC. What a fricking outstanding place to be for our university.

The story remains to be told. We got another Heisman out of round two. I would have preferred we went ahead and got the next two with those two though. Get this stupid save bama at all cost scheduling shite over with once and for all.

You'd think if they actually believed they were as superior to everyone else as they claim they'd be embarrassed by that Tennessee game. It's like if LSU were to say we have to play Tulane every year. You know... for tradition and stuff.

It's sad.

We nees to head to a 9 game conference schedule. Its fairly clear. Dont know why the feet are dragging.

I get that our conference schedule is far tougher that the others, so what, lets just move on. The Big 5 conferences are going to move to separate from the rest soon anyway and I would envision that the OOC schedule would have to be all withing those Big 5 when it happens.

Late 80's and early 90's you were past DKR but not yet to MB. Some lean years had mellowed them out and they were in the mix. Those with the big egos are the most bi polar. When they are high, they are really high but when it switches to low, you magnify self doubt.

Throw in the SMU days when Craig James was killing those 5 hookers and the folks in austin were pretty indecisive.

It was a lot closer to happening than most realize.

The SWC back then was a serious shite show. I can remember some of that stuff coming out in the news.

I cant imagine the dirt that would be uncovered in this day in age during that period.

The best thing for all those universities in the SWC was to eventually separate.

ACC and SEC formed out of the same mother conference and are symbiotic more than any of the other 3 Big 5 conferences. Imagine if the B1G and PAC had longstanding rivals between the conferences (say Southern Cal played Ohio State every year or Michigan played Stanford every year for the past 100 years). The SEC excels in doing their own thing and not following the crowd. If you are now part of the family, you need to view the big picture and learn to appreciate the history.

If Delany or Scott jumped off a bridge, my guess is Slive is smart enough not to follow the lemmings.
