I can't speak to his time at Colquitt, but at Hoover he had every resource imaginable. Can he coach? Absolutely. Was Hoover uniquely equipped for a variety of reasons to go on the type of run they went on (and have stayed on)? You bet.

Rush can coach, but so can a lot of other guys. Guys who lead young men with much more integrity and humility and self control (on and off the field). Rush is a guy who was a blink away from being a college assistant coach and then it all - the YEARS of lies - unraveled on him. He also, falsely, is convinced that HE is the reason for the players' success (D1 scholarships, etc), not the other way around.

Can someone elaborate more on him being a total POS? Was it just an affair?

i'm not trying to downplay the significance of an affair, but obviously plenty of good people have made mistakes along those lines

LOL ... no. I'm not that crippled yet. My wife is laughing right now though. She said she is getting me a cane for Christmas.

This damn weather though ... ouch. Sorry about it spilling over into posts.

Russellville had a coach that was equally as gifted at coaching high school football.

HE CHEATS! His titles are tainted. How hard is it to win at largest school in the state that also cheats.

Always thought he was. Considering the last name and the fact that he played at Hoover.

Hoover sucked before Probst got there. All the good athletes played basketball. Hoover wasn't the largest school in the state when he got there and it's not anymore either. Hoover isn't the only school in the state with the amount of resources they have, and yet they're the only one consistently dominating football in the state for going on 2 decades now. Probst made Hoover what it is, not the other way around. He did something similar at Colquitt County, they sucked before he got there and now they're an annual power. Probst is a great builder of programs.

As a matter of fact he absolutely got a a lot of guys scholarships that wouldn't have gotten them without him.

If you played for Probst and wanted to go to college he did everything within his power and influence to find you a school that fit and sell you to thag school, even if you were 3rd string for him. He made phone calls on your behalf and used Hoover's game and practice film to put together a highlight tape for you and send it out for you.

Compare the amount of signees Probst used to have to how many Niblett has ok average. If you play for Niblett you better be ranked at least a 3* on every major recruiting site if you want to play college ball. Niblett won't lift a finger to help you get recruited unless you're a 5* like Marlon Humphries and it makes himself look better. There are guys who were multi-year very good starters for Hoover but undersized for the big schools and their parents had to make their kids highlight tape themselves, make phone calls themselves, do all their sons recruiting themselves. Niblett wouldn't even talk to local colleges like Samford or BSC for his players.

Probst made some shitty decisions in his personal life, but as far as his players are concerned nobody can deny he genuinely cared for his players and he would've done anything for them. I don't know anybody who played for Probst that wouldn't say they're a better man for having played for him.

Meanwhile a coach like Niblett who's supposed to be thus great Christian and quotes bible verses all the time is nothing but a self promoter. Doesn't speak to his players outside of football unless you're a star. Won't do anything that he doesn't think wont make his public image better. Niblett is the real POS

Bunch of haters in thus thread who's HS got their arse beaten to a pulp by Probst

When people look the other way and allow recruitment in HS even you could win. HS is just not that competitive.

Probst is absolutely an Alabama HS football legend. Everybody knows who he is in this state.

Name on HS football coach from Alabama who's name carries more weight than Rush Probst.

Didn't you go to Vestavia or Spain Park?

Saban was going to hire him as OC at Bama when Saban first got there. But when he had his people do a background check and they found out about the affair, Saban went in another direction. But people acting like he isn't a good coach 8s just ridiculous.
