Soon meaning "now". Let them squabble over a stupid argument about whether people expressing an opinion -- either by kneeling or by standing with their hands over their hearts -- is worth all the stupid fricking acrimony. It's certainly not worth space on this board and, judging by some of what I've seen over the years, that's a pretty low bar to fail to reach.

Meh...disrespecting the country is a big deal to some people.

I remember what I had to do (serve in the military) to get my college tuition paid. Wouldn't go over well watching some college football player kneeling during the anthem while getting a full ride from Missouri.

Of course it is. And racial issues are important to other people. Neither of these issues are going to be solved by arguing over what bunch of athletes do before engaging in violence against each other for our amusement. I'm just here for the violence.

People are so up in arms about this and the media is fanning the flames.

To solve the problem all we have to do is discuss all of our nation's racial problems which we should be doing anyway.

We should be, but the "all we have to do" phrasing makes it sound simpler than it is. Too many people focused on the petty stuff (and, yes, there's pettiness on both sides -- even if you think the pettiness is warranted, that doesn't make it less petty) to deal with the fact that they're sitting across the table from actual human beings with actual concerns. Really stupid and misguided concerns much of the time, but that's humanity for you.

I agree.

The messenger and the delivery of the message are important, however.

I can be sympathetic to social issues while calling them idiots for the platform they decided to use to express themselves.

This will be a net loss for those using the anthem as an outlet for their angst.

We are all American.

There should be an open discussion where both sides express their opinions on this matter. These athletes and our president bickering back and forth on social media will never bring this country together, in fact it's actually moving us further apart. Social media is full of asinine memes and illogical arguments, but yet the right people haven't come forward to discuss the social anxieties of today.

Okay, y'all. I respect your opinions -- indeed, am impressed by the fact that y'all are expressing yourselves coherently and reasonably rather than vituperatively -- but each time I post, I'm actually encouraging what I didn't want in the first place, political talk on the Rant. So I'm going to retire from this discussion before my hypocrisy outgrows my belt-line.

Anchor up!

Maybe move thread to the Rant OT

We have a smart community there that can handle this discussion IMO

Yep sure will.

They can say and do what they want, but I reserve the right not to fund disrespect.

As was said earlier, teams are in the locker room, so they'd have to decide to come out early ahead of the big team intro to do it, so don't see it happening. Guess we will see come basketball season, but if it happens I for one would raise holy heck with the AD.

Does war really stand for freedom ? lol I think not, war is about money. Only clowns fight for the military. So the rich get richer, meanwhile I know hundreds of poor vets. It's so sad

I honestly don't know why this is so hard to understand. Our military is nothing more than the strong arm of corporations looking to get their hands on more natural resources.

Corporation wants resources
Corporation seeks lobbyists
Lobbyists lobbies interest to politician
Politician agrees
War
