We all know that the rankings are going to end up being:

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Washington

This would be fine and all, but just like with the BCS, the rules need to be made concrete.

If you're an 11-1 team with a good resume but somehow not in your conference title game, it should not be fine for the rules to be bent for a legacy team like Ohio State or USC (there are more teams) but not bent for non legacy teams.

If a conference title isn't needed, fine, but stop making up rules for the legacy schools. Make it for everyone, not just them.

One year we will be having this conversation about the SEC, and a lot of the same posters will be raising hell yelling,"4 best teams!"

Ohio St. vs Clemson would be the dream in the first round because you have a great story for the final either way.

Bama vs Clemson (the rematch)
Bama vs Ohio St (Urban vs Saban)

I dunno, I could see Ohio State beating Clemson this year if they got matched up in the semifinals, honestly.

Rutgers is a big 10 team so why is the big 10 knocking Washington out of conference

In this case I think it has more to do with the coaches. The committee is going to want Urban in the playoff and I can't really blame them.

Ohio State would have a hard time stopping Clemson, IMO. And Barrett has been playing like crap, so even Clemson's mediocre defense would have a chance at stopping him

If you compare resumes from a win loss record it should be.

Undefeated teams - Bama, so they are #1

1 loss teams - CU, UW, tOSU
CU & UW; both 12-1, div champs, conf champs & tOSU 11-1 no titles , so...

CU #2
UW #3
tOSU#4

But, they won't do this.

I think Clemson OSU is gonna be an awesome game. Those WRs against osu's potential 2 first round corners. Could be great

Except the playoff system was created expressly to give credence to conference achievement and avoid what you're talking about, specifically, by broadening the number of teams that get in and, explicitly, by stating that the extra game (conf champ game) carries a lot of weight.

The other thing I wonder about is the talk about losses. How about ignore losses and look at wins only.
13 wins- Bama
12 wins - UW, CU
11 wins- PSU, tOSU

Ok now who has head to head, who won the div, who won the conf.

I really feel if PSU gets left out it's because if tOSU, who they beat in every sense of the word. Bama, Clemson, & Udub should have nothing to do with it they should be locked in.

Resumes:

1) UA: 13-0; W 1 T10, 4 T25; L 0; Champ

2) CU: 12-1; W 1 T10, 3 T25; L 1 T25; Champ

3) OSU: 11-1; W 3 T10, 1 T25; L 1 T10

4) UW: 12-1; W 3 T25; L 1 T10; Champ

5) PS: 11-2; W 2 T10; L 1 T10, 1 T25; Champ

6) MI: 10-2; W 1 T10, 1 T25; L 1 T10, 1 T25

7) OU: 10-2; W 2 T25, L 1 T10, 1 Unr; Champ

Wins matter, conference champs matter, but so do losses. None of the 2-loss teams deserved to get in over any of the 1-loss teams.

You'd like that wouldn't you? Ain't happening son. Bama will beat Penn State and then Washington for the whole enchilada. Be happy with that. It's a good deal.
