Who did he lose to in 2010? I don't even remember.

I'm not saying Saban sucks. That's absurd. I'm just saying he's overrated. There are several coaches that would do just as good or better than he has at Bama. If I'm a Bama fan I'm sure not complaining. I just don't think he is the end all, be all coach everyone thinks he is. Outstanding recruiter and above average gameday coach, but hey, Jimmy's and Joe's are probably about 80-85 percent of the equation.

lol,, no,, Saban has 3, there are 4 there...

I know you gumps suck at simple math, reality and pretty much everything else that doesn't amount to gushing "reweullll tahuddddd", but really... sheesh..

Which is probably better than other coaches' records.

That said, I think most reasonable would say Saban isn't the best Xs and Os coach relative to some of his peers. He's good at it but its not his strength. His strength is recruiting, building, and managing a program.

Yea he's probably better at it than a lot of coaches, including Gary Pinkel, who if he could recruit a good bit better would still be a close approximation of Saban.

I don't. Bama is a tough job. Its one of the best jobs in America but only a few people could handle the pressures that come with it. Not many coaches can deal with life in the fishbowl. You've got to deal with enormous expectations while also keeping a passionate fanbase at bay. You really have to be an a-hole to coach at Alabama.

LSU 2003
ALABAMA 2009, 2011, 2012

That's four.

Out-talent, not out-coaching. He's the best recruiter, but lacks in the coaching area. After Malzahn's finish to AU's bowl game, I'm questioning if he can coach either.

That's a good point. He does have the demeanor for the job. I can see where it could eat some coaches alive.

Terry Bowden

2-1 (66.66%)*

*AU was ineligible for a bowl due to probation his first two year (20-1-1 record though).

Basically, every AU coach in the past 40+ years has a better bowl record than Saban, except Gus who has only been the coach two years and is 2 last second plays away from 2-0 in bowls.

Before this turns into a troll thread it is interesting. Saban is the best I have ever seen when his team is superior, they rarely ever have let down games. But when the field is even, he is almost what some would call below average. Saban is now 8-11 vs top 10 teams(end of the year rankings) while at Bama

Are you really too stupid to see why using end-of-year rankings for records against top-ten teams is moronic? If you hand a team a loss their odds of finishing in the top ten decrease dramatically, dolt. Ipso facto, very, very few coaches will have winning records against teams finishing at the top of the polls.

Better than using a ranking at any other time of year.

BTW, 1983 AU (the gold standard of tough schedules of national champs) played every team that fished in the top 6 of the Final AP poll except for 2.

hahahahaha... and playing all of the top 6 minus 2 is a lot of bullshite to say 3 of the top 6.

True. Should probably note they played another top ten team and yet another top 20 team.

Damn impressive. Probably the most accomplished national champ in college history. Toughest schedule ever played by a national champ in college history for sure.

Saban is 8-8 in bowl games bc SEC refs can't officiate the games. Bama has to play on a level playing field...

Saban's recruiting + SEC refs.... no need to coach. Let Alabama buy into that while the other SEC schools catch up over the coming years. Alabama will not win another Natty under Saban.

Alabama won't win another NC under Saban, but LSU won't win one under Miles, nor will UF win one under McElwain.

Saban is old and washed up

Malzhan and Sumlin are one trick ponies who run gimmick offenses

Les Miles just sucks and LSU fans are too worried about refs and what Nick Saban ate for breakfast yesterday to care

McElwain got replaced in favor of fricking Doug Nussmeier and has weird looking eyebrows

Bert is fat

Hard to argue those numbers, but let's try.
Saban has faced more evolving HUNH offenses, while only keeping a good number his top players for 2 years, occasionally 3.Sometimes your a victim of your own success. It happens to all teams who continously win. If you look at the SEC,top to Bottom,Arkansas is the only team playing a traditional smashmouth offense. Is it any wonder they won their bowl game? I don't have an answer, really. All I can say is,in 2008 we went 12-0 and lost SECG to Tebow late in game that would have put us there. Won it all 2009. Underachieved in 2010. Won a NC in 2010 and 2011. Lost a chance at another on last play of Iron Bowl 2013. Lost another chance in another on 1-1-2015. Summation,we've been in contention,2008,2009,2011,2012,2013 and 2014. You simply cannot ask for more. I'm not complaining one damn bit though I wanted another one. When your team gets that close, check in here again. Won more games in 7 years than any other team in that stretch. To all that, I say THANK YOU to LSU for letting Saban get away from you.
