The first half of The History of SEC Basketball on the SEC Network last night (part 3) spent a lot of time discussing these 3 and I have a non trolling question for LSU fans. Why all the hate for Brown on the Rant lately, especially in regards to naming the court after him? He took LSU to more than one Final Four and really put the program on the map. He never won the whole thing but CM and Wimp never got to the Final Four and I don't think any Bama fan would object to their name being put on the building or court or whatever.

Or is it just a few fans on the Rant making look like it's a thing when it really isn't. Just curious, thanks.

CM Newton.

Meh, I won't say anything. Not sure what the deal is with the UK fan base.

He's kinda like LeBron in that he's politically outspoken and expects everyone to kiss his arse. Without those 2 things, they would both be much more celebrated.

What cocoon do you go home to every night? If the King gets any more celebrated, worldwide, he would hit deity status. Now, as far as all these rednecks living in the Southern psyche, who can't separate achievement from prejudice, who knows, but mostly, who cares?

Dale Brown was an irritant by personality and didn't have to open his mouth about social/political issues to prove that. The dude just had an unfortunate way of putting things.

Because Daddy Dale had Shaq, Stanley Robert’s, and Chris Jackson on the same team - and couldn’t get past the second round! Nobody could waste more talent than DB! SMDH

Yet he made the final 4 with less talented teams. He's a bit of an enigma.

Wimp's name needs to be on an abused women's shelter.

OP, agree with your sentiments regarding Dale Brown. He built LSU basketball.

btw, I was at the Mideast regional in '76 in Baton Rouge. Alabama played Indiana in the semi-final and came very close to beating Indiana. Newton was Bama's coach. Indiana's unbeaten '76 team is regarded as one of the best team of all-time and Bama stayed right with them.

That game was a heartbreaker, I thought we were going to pull it off.

Why the SEC has gone down in basketball

Say what you will but I miss the "colorful" days. I think Dale invented the Freak Defense, Wimp was a colorful guy, C.M. was all county boy. Fun times.

We lost to them in the same fashion in the '87 Elite Eight. We missed the front end of a one-and-one to put us ahead and Indiana won by one. LSU would have been in their 2nd straight Final Four - in the Superdome!

I'm wondering how much longer Adolph Rupp's name will last on Kentucky's home court. Not trying to start anything but even UK fans know its days are numbered. He was the Jim Crow of college sports.

With cancel culture? It's hard to tell.

I'll disagree with the last part of your post, tho.

Pistol Pete was there before Dale

I am a fan of Dale but LSU basketball goes back farther

Hell probably the biggest thing for LSU sports was Huey.

That said, they do seem to be cyclical, more than consistent.

I think he was on the rules committee that adopted the shot clock to stop that UNC "stall ball" of Dean Smith. If he was that was good enough.

Did you know him, because I did.

He was arrogant
He could be a horses arse
(Think Spurrier but not as funny with quips)

If he thought a kid could play, he could care less what color they were.

I wish I could tell you man. Its very bizarre. I would like to think its because its just a few very vocal idiots, but I actually think a decent segment of the fan base hates Brown (his preaching can definitely turn people off). There also is no doubt he underachieved with several teams, but its also no doubt he over achieved with several as well. For me, I'm very appreciative as a student and then a season ticket holder (and always a fan), I got to see Rudy Macklin, Ethan Martin, John Williams, Jerry Reynolds, CJ (who for my money is the single most amazing college basketball player I ever saw in person; too young for Pistol), Shaq, etc. play up close and personal. No doubt Dale annoyed me quite a bit, but he certainly is BY FAR the greatest coach in LSU men's basketball, and second place isn't even in the vicinity.

The demonization of Rupp is media horseshite.
