Hamilton made comments yesterday (reported this afternoon) to local media that opened all this back up.

I don't think he had much choice. I remember a college basketball analyst discussing this a couple of weeks ago, don't remember his name, and he said his sources were telling him that if Tennessee didn't fire Pearl that they, the NCAA, would make if to where Tennessee wished they had. This analyst said that the NCAA could possibly suspend Pearl for a couple of years themselves if Tennessee didn't do the right thing. You don't lie to the NCAA.

Yeah, this has been known for a while that Pearl wouldn't be coaching next season, regardless of whether or not Tennessee fired him.
