The only way I see it happening is if the NCAA flattens them so badly there will be no way they can compete for a decade or more.

I'm talking 4-5 year bowl ban, loss of scholarships, etc, to where they replace Vandy as the league doormat.

They NCAA would have to padlock the facilities and actually cancel the season, thus affecting other teams schedules and TV monies.

The only reason I take part in Death Penalty discussions is because, well hell, every other "worse case scenario" for Ole Miss has come true. We may as well start prepping for the ultimate

Amazing the hubris an institution can cultivate with a few 9 wins seasons.

Only reason I asked because smoke is rising that the NCAA will go HAM at Ole Miss. They will only do this with proof. The SEC has banded to clean up our image, so it could get interesting.

Death penalty won't happen unless they found proof of freeze getting hookers for recruits and admin knowing, or proof of university knowledge about all of this

They were clearly operating in a bubble where outside perspective was completely lacking.

The everyone up the chain of command...the entire administration should be shite canned for this.....complete lack of institutional control.

Chris Landry: OM officials knew of Freeze's behavior, stood by him until it became public

Couple of questions:

1) who is Chris Landry?
2) how is he connected to OM enough to know that the officials knew of the behavior?

Actually, I think proof Freeze did it and that the university didn't do due diligence to investigate would have the same effect thanks to Loss Of Institutional Control.

Him contacting hookers on his university-provided phone which they had the call logs for would certainly be a basis for claiming that the school didn't do due diligence in its compliance investigations.

Doubt Ole Myth was going to face the NCAA with Hugh Freeze at the table...they used this to expedite his departure.

I don't think the NCAA would ever hammer a program like that again. I don't think they will ever do more than 2 year bowl ban, vacate wins, and suspend coaches. I think the SEC won't let a program be hit with it more than that. If this happened 10-15 years ago I think Ole Miss would get a 4 year bowl ban. NCAA would never give the death penalty after what it did to SMU.

Not that big of a change, outside of Eli & Free$e years, Ole Miss was already the West Division doormat

The only reason it would do so would be for incredibly egregious violations, like Dave Bliss and the Baylor clusterfrick where one player killed another and then Bliss circled the wagons to cover up payments to the dead player.

Of course, widespread violations of the Mann Act by hiring hookers across state lines for minors could end up doing it.

Bjork had a chance to come back to Mizzou once Rhodes left. Mizzou was not a good place with the fake protests, but nothing compared to what Ole Miss is about to go through, especially with the NCAA gonna hammer them more with subpoena power with Nutt's lawyers.

Worst case realistic scenario for Ole Miss would be 2 more year bowl ban on top of the already self imposed ban, 10 scholarships per year for 3 years, withholding of revenue like the Big 12 did with Baylor, no recruiting off campus, leadership fired from chancellor to AD, and removing all W/L records in the HF era, including any Major Bowl and win advertising.

I have learned that University officials knew of Freeze’s behavior but chose to stand by Freeze but once it became public outside the University, they were forced to cut ties with the coach and forced him to resign or be fired

They only knew for a few days - should they have fired him quicker?

How did I know for a year and the OM admin only for a few days?

If they get the death penalty, can the SEC kick them out? Serious question

The only way I see the SEC giving the boot to a school is if the NCAA gives the entire school (all sports) a multi year TV ban because now you are directly affecting many schools. I doubt the death penalty in 1 sport would do it.

It's interesting to me that Bjork isn't an ordinary AD but is actually considered a Vice Chancellor. By title, that makes him a ranking member of the university's highest administrative level (whereas most schools just have an AD that essentially acts separate from the university but coordinates with the school president). One of the big reasons of having athletics separate from the university financially and by title is to create a degree of compartmentalization so that if something like this were to happen the university could claim ignorance and clean house in athletics and deflect responsibility. The title gives the perception that if Bjork is complicit then so too would be the university chancellor
