Of course they did because he was doing it for recruits.

Literally a handbook on how not to handle an investigation. Instead of washing their hands of him when it started, and claiming self enforcement, they doubled down. Once they investigated the issues and declared hugh had done nothing wrong, they hitched their fate to him.

Any evidence of wrongdoing after that, and its LOIC.

Enter Houston Nutt's lawyers with subpoena power the NCAA doesn't have.

Which if this is true, there goes the "Ole Miss proactively fired Freeze, so the penalties will be lessened" argument.

Amazing the hubris an institution can cultivate with a few 9 wins seasons.

They only knew for a few days - should they have fired him quicker?

Those penalties will be absolutely devastating for Ole Miss. That's assuming the NCAA doesn't pile on more now.

It's not just hubris that makes this so entertaining, it's their hubris/lack of self awareness/idiocy cocktail that makes this great.

One of the best examples of self-defeating behavior I've ever come across.

They were clearly operating in a bubble where outside perspective was completely lacking.

If they get the death penalty, can the SEC kick them out? Serious question.

Yes. Original members can be evicted.

Not gonna happen, but it's legally possible

We should. Add another TX team, or NC State.
