next year, the Mighty 9-3 LSU Tigers would be left out. Would any of you Tigers fans care?

Most of us could give two shits.

Our defense was historically straight up fricking aweful

That defense in the college football playoff would be insulting.

So, what you’re saying is no matter what, there will never be consensus in College Football. There will always be some fanbase upset until be have an NFL style playoff system. That can never happen with over 140 or so teams. So you win some and lose some. Such is life. You made my point well

Yep, more of us will have something to bitch about…

There will always be controversy. All the issues you mentioned PLUS teams and conference commissioners won't like having their teams play each other in the same brackets. You could run the chance of seeing 2 teams play each other 3 times....Regular season, SECCG, and playoffs.

Liberty would be in at 12

So #5 would basically get a bye week and extra bowl bling for the game. Plus an extra home game for revenue.

How would you react being left out if this was next year?
Not much differently and still blaming the coaches for the pitiful defense. Arguments about getting screwed out of #12 are far less significant that those who are screwed out of #4.
