Auburn should be. Best 3 loss team in the country

I woudl guess Washington at 6.
I think the like to signal with their top 5
Louisville could be top 4 but I wouldn't expect them to get in if they don't win the ACC.
Michigan vs OSU will also decide part of this.
I think if Washington wins out they are in.

I think it is:
Bama
OSU
Michigan
Clemson
L'ville
Wisconsin
Michigan has 3 top 12 wins and a "better" loss IMO. Clemsons wins aren't as good and their loss is at home
That is using clear metrics but who knows how these guys will do this

They love that Strength of Record metric
ESPN Strength of Record
1. Alabama (99.4)
2. Clemson (96.6)
3. Ohio State (95.1)
4. Wisconsin (93.7)
5. Louisville (92.3)
6. West Virginia (91.6)
7. Michigan (91.3)
8. Colorado (90.8)
9. Washington (90.4)
10. Western Michigan (90.0)
So, my guess would be :
1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Ohio State
4. Michigan
5. Louisville
6. Washington
ESPN Strength of Record
1. Alabama (99.4)
2. Clemson (96.6)
3. Ohio State (95.1)
4. Wisconsin (93.7)
5. Louisville (92.3)
6. West Virginia (91.6)
7. Michigan (91.3)
8. Colorado (90.8)
9. Washington (90.4)
10. Western Michigan (90.0)
So, my guess would be :
1. Alabama
2. Clemson

Is that their "how much better is this team than what an average team would do against their schedule" ranking?

"how much better than ranking"?
Yep - it's an interesting metric. Basically a combination of strength of schedule and then whether you actually won any of the games.
quote:
Strength of Record: Reflects chance that an average Top 25 team would have team's record or better, given the schedule. On a 0 to 100 scale, where 100 is best.

Good points. They very well may put Michigan ahead of Clemson.

Strength of Record is important, but so are other factors like quality wins (especially on road), comparison of losses, game control, eye test, head-to-head...

Yea, agree. I like it for determing a total body of work. Then you can look at quality wins for top level achievement and the FPI/S&P type models for overall quality of the team.

I re-read the committee's ask this morning and found it interesting in all this debate:
So only if they originally have OSU and PSU (for example) as close would they go to the tiebreakers which PSU would likely win. But they may not view PSU and OSU as "at the margins" with each other. Other people may not have read it closely before (I hadn't)

When circumstances at the margins indicate that teams are comparable, then the following criteria must be considered: ? Championships won ? Strength of schedule ? Head-to-head competition (if it occurred) ? Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)

fricking Louisville. Why the hell is the Florida state win carrying them so much. What else have they done. They've had some poor games against bad teams along with a good loss
Overrated as frick. Just because their qb is a fast runner

Yea, it's like with the whole TCU-Baylor thing. They don't look at head to head or Conference Titles until the very end or something.
Honestly, I think that's all bullshite. I think they sit around and decide what they want to do and then craft their message based off it.
Paint the bullseye around the arrow, per say.

I guess it could be but you'd be talking a bit different as PSU has a 2nd loss.
I think it basically mandates that if you have Teams A/B/C all close, then you look at those things. But if A has separated itself, f these 4 points
