Are the marquee victory on Alabama's schedule. I know that the SEC isn't as strong as,say, five years ago but to me that isn't completely accurate. Winning at LSU at night when LSU still had something to play for is a much better victory than an early September game in a neutral site against a PAC 12 team who started the worst QB in the last 25 years for that program. McElroy does his best to be pragmatic on topics of Bama and I get it. Like Herbstreit with the Buckeyes. But I still think the SEC is slightly better than the PAC. I dont think it is better than the Big Ten but it is much closer than people think.

I don't think it really matters who the first place loser is.

They are currently the highest ranked opponent that Bama played this year. It's not that much of a stretch.

Sure, they have improved over the year, but so has Bama. How many td's did USC give up in November? Bama gave up 0.

do you understand why they are much different/better now than they were in the opener?

At the end of the day today, USC will be the highest ranked out of all of Alabama's opponents.

They are different on offense, and I'm sure that does help their defense - but their defense didn't magically become awesome. They were solid at the start of the year when they were losing too. Alabama had 7.38 yards per play against them, by far the biggest output they allowed all year. Next most is 6.52 vs Stanford and 5.72 vs Cal. And that was with Blake Barnett playing a quarter and Jalen Hurts making his first ever appearance in a college football game.

USC would present more problems offensively now, and their defense wouldn't be on the field as much, but Alabama did win the game by 46 points.

yes, I watch them play on Fox several times, and they have improved, but so has Bama.(Let's not forget that was Hurts first start) USC might hold Bama to under 45 now, but still wouldn't get a td. The Pac 12 sucks don't believe the hype, and Washington is going to get killed in the playoffs if they make it.

Hell he didn't even start. We threw away 2 possessions with Barnett looking like a deer in the headlights and then Hurts fumbled the ball his very first collegiate touch.

I stand corrected, but it was his first game.

No, I was agreeing with the premise of what you were saying. We ripped off big plays left and right against them. Nothing has changed with their defense outside of getting more experience and the offense picking them up.

Point being, maybe you can discount what we did to their offense compared to today, but what we did to their defense shouldn't be.

No win in the SEC is something to claim this year.
Sorry, but not sorry. Everyone had issues, whether self inflicted like firing your coach in September, or was besieged with injuries like Auburn.
USC just simply wasn't ready to play.

I agree. The QB change has been great but people underestimated their defense that really gelled.

They also have two future high picks at receiver. That was a much more impressive win than people want to give Bama credit for.

Why not?

I don't think he is saying that USC is playoff caliber. He's just pointing out that USC has had a decent year.

LSU, AU, Florida, Arkansas, A&M, Tennessee seem ok, but not reliable.
