The tv packages shoulder some of the blame. With damn near every game on tv, a lot more folks are skipping out

That's part of the "student section" nobody wants to walk up to. Which is weak, cause sit up there and I love my seats. Well sorta, I'm comfortable, but there's a lot of people that sit on their hands all day and that annoys me.

my guess is significantly better tv coverage is killing some crowds

Sometimes I'd rather just stay at home and watch all the games instead of all the hassle and expense of driving to campus, fighting for parking, getting there super early for a tailgate, then cleaning everything up, and driving a couple hours back home.

If I've got stuff to do, I can get it done, peek in on a few games, sit down for the 2:30 game, and go get a pizza and some beer and catch the primetime games and not have to use a port-a-potty one time all day.

I think the prevalence of all the games on TV is taking a toll on live attendance for meh games and nobody wants to support a meh team with a coach that isn't performing.

We think alike. I am from the good old days when schedules and kick off times were known in August and never changed.

Today you have to juggle your schedule the week before a TV game not knowing if its 11am (UGH) or 8:30pm. I love my wide screen more and more and my easy walk from my recliner to the bar when things aren't going well for the Tigers or better yet, when they are.

I am gonna go with the ever escalating "donations" that go with tickets. With all the media money these schools are making you would think the cost would go down and not up. Wait till the baby boomers start dying and some places will turn into ghost towns!

Whateva. The USC/Georgia game set the largest record crowd in Williams-Brice of 85,199 people! Previous record was 85,000 against Clemson in 2001.

Knee jerk reaction here - but could the SEC dominance hurt attendance in other parts of the country?

Definitely a factor if we're talking about actual attendance vs. tickets sold. Face value means nothing when you're shopping on the secondary market.

2012 Florida Tennessee tickets were almost impossible to find on game day. it felt like 90's all over again. everybody was looking for tickets and it was hard to find people selling tickets. I seriously thought we'd end up watching the game at the Buffalo Wild Wings. we ended up paying a steep price for the tickets but UT lost

Bottom line is the cost of tickets and travel have priced many average fans out of being able attend. Additionally, the previous point made about improved TV...all games are on HD TV. Honestly, the game view from home is now better than seats at games.

I agree. Alot of the average fans, have smaller disposable income amounts in today's economy. Even those that aren't as hurt by it, are being a little more cautious with their money. Too much economic uncertainty still going on right now. Then as everyone said, coupled with the tv packages now available and the home entertainment systems most people have, it's much easier and enjoyable to watch from home in alot of instances, especially for those that aren't students or above the age of 30. Tailgating, hanging out and all that is fine, but there comes a point in age, that it doesn't really matter that much in the scheme of things.

What this article doesn't show is turnstile numbers. Even with Alabama s student section being empty many times, no way Bama averaged its number. And I can't laugh enough with Auburns attendance numbers and only being a 4% decrease.
How many actually showed up for Alabama A&M?

Without even reading that I will assume that economy has made the sidewalkers at the large schools asses quit. Forklift drivin just doesn't pay enough to spend 200 a seat on tickets. In the meantime, teams with very little sidewalk fan following are immune to this. State sold every home game out, has a two year waiting list for season tickets and is expanding their stadium.

I would totally do away with our student section, they suck arse anyway, and are never a factor in any game, and open those seats up to people that are willing to pay good money to sit there.

And UAB's laughable attendance figures aren't helping that overall statistic either. Now, let's award all ten of their fans by building UAB a new stadium!
