No. The 17 million dollar subsidy numbers that get thrown around are bullshite because the vast majority of that money is collected from the outset for athletics/football. i.e. they charge students a fee that is earmarked for the AD or football. Same thing is done at most universities. Without the AD/program, the revenue doesn't come in to the university to begin with. Same thing with the $ from the city. That's not a subsidy. That's just the university administration being a middle man.

In any case, the calculus should be whether whatever is being lost [if any] is getting a return of equal or greater value for UAB, Birmingham and the state. It is.

This is not a money thing and was not done for financial reasons.
