When has this happened during his time as head coach? The closest they have gotten to "contending to win championships" is when they have been picked to win the SEC East in the preseason.

If by championship he means the SEC East championship, and if by contending he means that they play in the East, then yes they "contend for championships."

Butch Jones has no sense of reality. That 49-10 drubbing Jalen Hurts and Alabama gave to them in Knoxville this past October should show him that they are a long way away from contending to win championships.
