He's no Bobby Denton. About like Kessling replacing Ward, impossible to replace legends.

Bri, already mentioned the new guy does it and I *think* still does some of the Denton classics (someone whose brain is more sure on whether or not the new guy does the other classic Dentonisms feel free to clarify). Also, he's MUCH better than John Ward's replacement on the radio (Kessling just doesn't have it and we have much better Vol radio guys in other sports). The new guy is a good PA announcer in his own right. But Denton was special in so many ways for those of us who got a chance to encounter him - great mix of levity, subtle wit, and PA announcing.
We were lucky as hell to have both Denton and John Ward at the same time. I miss them both tho' Ward is still alive.

You mean they don't play rocky top after every single first down?
Maybe they can play some stupid krunk song like the do on third downs. Hell, have a stupid song for every imaginable scenario. It's not like Tennessee fans go to Negland to watch their football team win.

As I said yesterday, there isn't a gimmick Butch won't try. First down chants are fine...but when you take into consideration all of the other circus acts he tries its just laughable at this point.

I disagree that he's on par with mush-mouth Kessling but agree that it's impossible to replace legends. Even so, I think the new guy does a pretty good job considering. It's just not the same.

After the announcer says 1st down, it would be nice, imo, if the band could do something to spur the crowd into action. Save Rocky Top for points after (and yes boys and girls that's when it's played) and be creative - doesn't have to be a whole song either.
Even so, I remember the short lived Smokey's Howl and all I can say is thank god it's god. "It's Great to be a Tennessee Vol" wouldn't be bad but I'd rather save that for post-game.
Not opposed to the idea but I'm just not sure we'll find something that fits. There are often more misses than hits when trying to find something new. That said, anything we can do to make things more fun for the crowd and get people even more involved is a good thing. We'll probably have to go through a trial and error process tho.
