Just curious but how old are you? I ask because Alabama was putting a lot of players in the NBA back during the 70s thru the early 2000s. We haven't for about the last 12 to 15 years but sent many players to the NBA prior that. The point being that Alabama has recruited very well historically when we had a charismatic coach and the fans were excited about the program.

Yeah, he is referring to the nuggets back in 94 in a five game first round series.

What the Mavs under Avery did against Golden State was considerably worse IMO.

Pretty sure they were brought in in Avery's first full season. Theyear they made the finals and should have won it.

Which is why Avery may do well at bama

My whole point is he was not a good nba coach. Cuban was a great owner that built the best roster in the nba when Avery took over.

Thank God Alabama doesn't play in the NBA. We'd be fricked with AJ for sure.

I have read Bill Simmons's take on that series. I do not remember it, probably didn't watch much of it. He puts it all on Dirk, considers it an enormous choke job.

My honest opinion of AJ is he was fired prematurely from the Mavs, and never got off the ground in NJ. Not a terrible coach, probably would've gotten another shot in the NBA sooner or later. His biggest thing is enthusiasm, motivation, personality. I can see how it would translate more to the college game. He's a big name from the NBA who has had a little success but also failed. Still early in his career. Nobody should call it a fantastic or a bad hire. The potential is there, we will see.

Look at the people that won the next four coach of the year awards. It's lazy media looking at a turn a round or a surprise story. The fact of the matter is the hand checking rules change was making the spacing Dirk provided the most valuable offensive asset in the league. Especially with Jet's three point shooting in their back pocket. Avery didn't do much special. He's a fast paced coach that's really aggressive on offense. He doesn't like the guards holding on to the ball because he thinks quick aggressive passing will catch the defense off guard. He gave Dirk the greenlight to shoot off the pick and roll/pick and pop whenever he wanted. But it's still basic NBA basketball. Nothing that innovative.

Success in NBA is due to GM acquisitions and talent. Failure is due to poor coaching. Got it!

NBA coaches are the most well paid scapegoats on the planet. Where do I sign up!?!

For a college program, I'd go with Bruce Pearl in a heartbeat.

There are really no organizational similarities between a pro team and a college program, and honestly, the game itself is very different.

Johnson knows next to nothing about the college game.

I'm sorry if the last books you read were the Bernstein Bears, but that post was like 100 words. No need for more than one paragraph.

Pearl was great at Tennessee, a legit basketball program. But now he is at Auburn, a shite show where his career will die as Avery Johnson leaves him in the dust.
