Q: What SEC coach has the hottest seat going into the year?

A: Derek Dooley, without question. He did a solid job in year one, but had a rough year last year. That was in part due to injuries, but the Kentucky loss really tightened the noose.

Q: What would he have to do to save his job?

A: Those at Tennessee have made it pretty clear to Derek, if he doesn't get to 8-4, he will not be retained. I think Tennessee's talent level is being vastly underrated, though. With that schedule, if they stay healthy, 8-4 is very reasonable. I think they have a good chance of getting to 9.

This was from a radio interview he did. He's one of the best media guys out there. There's been a lot of talk on VolQuest about this, but I think 8 wins is the correct benchmark to set.

If we don't win a ship, send him packing.

I agree with that, with 3 NFL WR's and an NFL QB we should win 8 games

Joker's seat may be just as hot. Should he start Herp Derp Newton over Smith and incoming frosh Patrick Towels it could get OH LAWD kinda ugly in Lexington.

He shouldn't have been retained last year. They're basically wasting a valuable year during a rare time when Florida is down. Good job, Tennessee.

Troof.

Unless a 7-5 record is achieved with one of those wins being against UGA or Bammer (UF and USCe maybe? )

8 is asking too much at this juncture. 6 or 7 should get him an extension so he can continue building the program.

7-5 with a win over Bama and only Bama would keep him around, IMO. The other losses would have to be really close ones too.

We very well might beat Fla. this year, in spite of Derek Doofus being the HC.

Bray will go to the NFL.

Whether he pans out or not is yet to be determined.

This. He isn't even coaching "only" his players yet...

You would have thought after the last coach moved on to a better job and you saw the talent pool you were able to pull from that patience would have resulted, Dooley built LaTech, he will rebuild Tennessee back to getting to bowl games if given the proper amount of time.

Or you can fire him and start over then fire the next guy after 2-3 years and start over and stay at your current SEC bottom dweller level, doesn't matter to me one way or the other...

Yeah, us bastards shouldn't demand success as much as we do.

Hardly. Dooley didn't do any better than Bicknell before him. Dykes is doing better than Dooley now.

But he's using Dooley's players.

It isn't the late 90s anymore... Tennessee needs to follow Ms. State's example and consistently get to bowl games, win them, then try to build from there.
