Mushburger is not only too old, because of his age he knows all the trite comments used by announcers over the yrs & uses them over & over again. He is the ultimate party line arse kisser & has not had an original thought in the past 20 yrs. By bringing in Mushburger and Finebaum, the SEC is showing it has lost touch with its own fan base; neither would have been hired by any school's fans.Palmer at least knows the game & usually does his homework. Brando is a clown & was let go by CBS for good reason.

I also have no real problem with him. He's just very pro-tu.

I think he goes for the easy story-line/catch phrase. Because we've been down for much of recent history outside the last two years, while UTx has been up, that's meant he's ridden longhorn jock hard.

But the important thing here is to recognize what this means for the SECN big-picture. You don't bring in a guy like Musberger, or even a guy like Palmer, to broadcast games against Georgia Southern or Louisiana-Monroe. This pairing is another data point showing that we're going to have real, meaningful, marquee games on the SECN. A&M/USC is just the beginning. ESPN is putting serious resources and talent into this venture. For comparison, does anyone know who the announcers are for the BTN? Of course not. Here they are:

quote:

For the seventh straight year, Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith will anchor the network’s game-day studio coverage on Big Ten Football Saturday, and will contribute to additional studio shows during the week.

This year’s primary broadcast teams for BTN’s football telecasts include Matt Devlin (play-by-play) and Glen Mason (analyst); Kevin Kugler (play-by-play) and Chuck Long (analyst); and Eric Collins (play-by-play) and Derek Rackley (analyst). Mason, Long and Rackley will also make frequent studio appearances.

99.99% of college football fans have NO idea who ANY of those guys are. But Musberger is a Name, with a voice instantly recognizable by most sports fans. Love him or hate him, he's going to add credibility to the SECN out of the gate just by his presence.

So we're going to have to listen to those two idiots announce then watch to see how long Tim Tebow can talk at halftime without breathing.

Oh yay.

Wow, I fully expected the rant to completely agree 100% with whoever ESPN chose...

I think most LSU fans dislike Musberger because they can't hear him without remembering 21-0. "Folks, it's a mauling!"

Mirth, attic is right. Mushmouth is going to still be a schill, but he will be our schill calling the second biggest SEC games of the week.

I'm not thrilled with either of these guys, but for the Network to be going big, that's a good thing to see.

Palmer is ok. Mushburger is terrible.

I would prefer guys with great football knowledge instead of guys who are good at glamorizing talking points. ESPN has to have some people with high football IQ, even if they are younger and less experienced.

Couldn't agree more honestly.

Out of curiosity...
If you had to choose between the two, who would you rather have? Musburger or Verne?
