Ex-Central Florida OC/RBs coach Brent Key expected as Alabama's new OL coach per sources. Mario Cristobal expected to move to TEs/tackles.

Key was a long time assistant under George O'Leary, in addition to playing for him at Georgia Tech. He is also an Alabama native.

Long speculated that Bobby Williams would retire/move to player personnel role. I guess it actually happened.

I would imagine he can help in Alabama and Florida, but maybe more of a move to improve line technique (ala. Pendry or Stoutland).

Nice pick up. Mario's lines have not been impressive, good thing Blake and Jake could move around to survive to play another down.

Key actually interviewed for the OL job in 2013, after Stoutland left for the Eagles.

Who was our OL coach in 2012-13? Whoever that was did a great job (obviously looked good due to the beastly players), but didnt he leave after that season along with Nuss?

Stoutland, and he's a good'un. The NFL doesn't come knocking if you're not.

Joe Pendry 2007-2010
Jeff Stoutland 2011-2012
Mario Cristobal 2013-2015 (assuming that he's moving to TEs as reported)

Key was kind of viewed as a rising star and was supposed to be O'Leary's successor, not sure what went wrong

I've never heard of this Brent Key guy. He's going to be a massive upgrade over Cristobal as an OL coach.

It seems like TEs coach is where Saban puts his useless coaches who are excellent recruiters. See Bobby Williams.

With all the talent Bama has recruited at the OL spots the past couple years, Key is walking into the best possible situation for a new coach. He's already got an anchor at LT and a host of 4 and 5 star prospects to choose from for the other spots. The second group of OL is probably better than a lot of teams first string.

Tackles for loss allowed rankings while Key was UCF OL Coach

2009- 95th
2010- 67th
2011- 40th
2012- 75th
2013- 43rd
2014- 94th

Rushing yards per attempt

2009- 97th
2010- 52nd
2011- 48th
2012- 35th
2013- 57th
2014- 120th

Not good. This guy is going to be another Cristobal.
