It has long been speculated that Jeff Long has been grooming himself to put his name in the hat.

There has been talk of Foley taking the job one day as well. However I don't see him doing it, I think until very recently he made more than Slive.

His successor will, like Slime, be a lawyer by trade. You have to have that background to navigate all the loopholes of the NCAA.

Here's the short list if I had a guess: Mark Womack, Associate Commissioner and Bama grad. Jeff Long, current Arkansas athletic director Malcolm Portera, Former chancellor at Alabama and president at Mississippi State Bob Bowlsby, current commissioner of the Big 12 Jeremy Foley, athletic director at Florida

None of the above. The next Commissioner will be a former TV Network executive. Whoever it is will not have any ties to current schools.

I was thinking the same thing.

He needs to be another Yankee like Slive. A true northeasterner who knows how the TV / major corporation executive crowd thinks. Who speaks their language so he can maximize revenues by monetizing everything from sweet tea and soda pop to chitlins.

"Goody's Headache Powder - The official pain reliever of the SEC."

They'll be baling money like cotton!

Ultimate rant melt would be R. Bowen Loftin. He was president at Texas A&M and now serves as chancellor of Missouri.

Alleva is the logical choice. Was previously at Duke.
